Looking for a 1.9 motor for a Escort

My step sister blew a number #4 piston in her car. Its a 95 escort 1.9. They offered her one with 60k miles on it for $800. Is that a good deal? She really wants a new one ,but I can't find a site that sells brand new motors. Any info would be helpful.

Jasper Engines will sell remanufatcured engines, that is as close as you are going to get to brand new.

$800 sounds a bit high. Do a search on car-part.com

Since it is a a second generation Escort you could always buy the car from your sister and drop in a Mazda 323GTX engine (turbo engine with LOTS of potential) into it.

Already tried to buy it off of her. She wants to put another motor in it Why? I dunno. I was just going to part it out on ebay or some Escort forum.

Run to a Junk yard, They should have a 1.9 out of a GT laying around somewhere... I picked up a 4 EAT tranny for a 92 a while back I paided 195 out the door. IMO them 1.9's are a very reliable engine, don't give up on it..

I think you mean the 1.8L DOHC. The non-turbo version of the very same engine found in the aformentioned Mazda 323GTX.

She decided to go with the 60k 1.9 motor for $800. *Sigh* she wanted to go the cheap way. There for awhile she thought she was driving my car to work cause her truck gets bad gas mileage. I told her where to go on that subject. I asked around and alot of people said to stay away from junk motors cause you have no history on them Ect. oh well to late now.
