Good places to find used cars?

I've looked high and low, near and far. Here's all the places I've been in search of a 3/S:

Every dealer in a 50 mile radius.
AutoTrader (catalog, weekly, next one comes out the 27th!)
AutoTrader.com (daily)
cars.com (daily)
carsoup.com (daily)
A huge network of mechanics in the south, via a couple good connections o' mine.

I've gone as far as 250 highway miles to check on cars in Kentucky, and Georgia. No dice. The first one was a very nice black 1st gen. Beautiful car. Put the clutch to the floor, and started her up. I got passed by a cloud of white smoke. I turned it off and popped the hood to find that it had NO oil in it. Deal breaker.

Goodie.

My second adventure involved a red 1st gen. Called the place and asked if it ran good, to which I got the reply, "Yeah. It still runs like new!" I'm getting excited. I go all the way down near Atlanta, Georgia to find that the ECU had gone bad, and someone neglected to tell the person I talked to. I would have bought the car if I had a car trailer on me. :p

Great.

So now I'm getting closer to the weekend again, and I'll have the freetime to go on another roadtrip and preview another car. I'm dead set on a 3000GT or a Stealth, and there's no changing my mind now. I've already got the tools needed to fiberglass my previous system into the hatch area.

Anyone know of any good places to go in search of a used car, or am I doing everything right so far? This is killing me!

Ah, forgot to post that one too. Didn't think anyone here checked into 3Si. :p I've been checking there too, and calling people who've posted cars from months back.

Also got a post here:

Thanks for the advice though.

Ease of use in where I live, lots of shitty roads and dead ends that require stopping, reverse, 1st, reverse, 1st. I've driven many manuals. Most of them are work trucks. It's not that I'm afraid of driving one at all. It's great for car control, but I'm just not fond of them. I prefer automatics. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

A 450hp TT FWD automatic is almost unheard of by most people. It seems to me that tuning the boost would be easier with a higher compression/lower boost engine than a VR-4's lower compression/higher boost. It would definately be a statement on the platform. The only drawback compared to the VR-4 is that it isn't AWD. But most 3/S's that have manuals are only FWD as well.

...and the fact that for $79 I can buy a kit that makes it shift faster than most people can shift a manual. Add that to a high-stall torque converter and you'll have easily repeatable track times.

And tonight's #1 reason is: I'm 16. Insurance is a bitch. :p

Another thing I forgot to list. There's one in Knoxville (about 37 miles from me). So far, my impression of that place is pretty good quality, but overpriced. The only 3000GT they had there when I checked last was a VR-4 Spyder, and waaaaay out of my pricerange.

Update!

Drove my new car home today. 1993 Pearl White 3000GT. Oh, and I happy now. :p

I'll post some pics tomorrow after I've cleaned it up a bit. All I can say for now is: it's beautiful for a '93 model car. The paint almost looks new still. I've never seen a metalic white paint before in my life.
