2.7L - 3.8L swap?

So, I read in the paper today that the lower priced "highline" edition of the Pacifica will come with the less powerful 3.8L engine that is currently available as the top-of-the-line engine in the minivans.

What I'm wondering is, why doesn't DCX use the more reliable 3.8L in the LX platform instead of the 2.7L? Less varity of engines will save DCX some money, and increase reliability. Plus, it's got plenty more torque and HP than the 2.7L.

Thoughts?

just curious, and because it will effect my opnion, what trans do the LX cars use for the 4-speed? Is it effectivly the same setup as the prowler, or do we have a new 4 speed tranny out there?

It's a mercedes transmission if I'm not mistaken. Somehow, I forgot that the 3.8L in both the minivan and the pacifical will likely only be in the FWD vehicles.

If I'm not mistaken though, the 3.8L minivan did have an AWD option with it, did it not (I know the 3.3 did, and a 3.8L is pretty much just a stroked 3.3L)

The same trans that is in the Liberty. V-8 models get the 5 speed by mercedes.

Yes 3.8's did have AWD available. But it is no longer becuase of Stow-N-Go.

So far I have heard that there is a lower priced model on the way, as a "Touring" model, but nothing along the lines of the 3.8 being used. Also considering that the 3.8 is set up for the minvan platform as a transverse engine, they would have to turn the engine to get it to work with the transmissions....I guess it could work, just not "cost effective" from their standpoint.

I am pretty sure the 300C gets the merc (5spd auto) tranny only if you are getting the hemi. If you get the 3.5L or 2.7L then you are getting a 4 spd auto which is the same wonderful ultradrive same as your Intrepid.
