2003 Neon Transmission issue

My sister's Neon is giving a code 700 and going in and out of limp mode. Mechanic is saying it's the TCM, but I'm leaning towards something else because it doesn't stay in li p mode, and I'm not reseting the computer. It started after getting new speed sensors.

1st question, on the 2003 Neons, are the ECU and TCM one whole unit Or separate modules?

And any ideas what else it can be?

I'll have to get them read. The key dance gave some other codes, but I know that won't show the detailed transmission codes.

You don't have a half-assed cheapo code reader? Even some of the cheapo code readers from HF will read them.

Might be as simple/quick as an Input/output sensor. The codes will tell you.

My sis said they told her the codes were P0700, P0441, and P0501 .... she also said he resetted the ecu and only the P0700 code remains. I haven't had a chance to check for myself

this is from the 2004 powertrain diagnostic manual:

P0501-VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR #1 PERFORMANCE

When Monitored and Set Condition:

P0501-VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR #1 PERFORMANCE
When Monitored: Engine running. Transmission not in park or neutral. Brakes not
applied. Engine run time greater than 10 seconds. Engine RPM above idle.
Set Condition: The PCM does not see vehicle speed signal from the transmission control
side of the PCM. Two Trip Fault.

Possible Causes:

GOOD TRIP EQUAL TO ZERO
TRANSMISSION DTC(S)
PCM

Looking at that and if the Neon is similar..then the PCM is bad. That's assuming there's no other transmission codes as it suggests checking for above. Don't know if it's a SBEC PCM in the Neon. You'll need to check elsewhere.
