Sub box build help

Hey everyone!

I registered on this forum for one thing, and one thing only. That is to help my friend get his subs into his Intrepid. He's been waiting for someone to come along and build him a sub box for a very long time. He has 2 15" Alpine type R's and he knows it's going to be a very tight fit in his car. I've looked up specs for a box to have 2.9 cubic feet of air inside, which is recommended for these subs. Ideally, he would like 1 ported box that fits both the subs. The dimensions recommended for one box is 19.5" x 16.5" x 20". I've never built a box for subs, but I have built boxes for bass amps. I'm not sure how similar or different they are. I was just wondering if anyone could draw up a box that would fit the trunk with the things I have listed.

Thank you for ANY help whatsoever!
Tyler

IRC the rear deck height is only about 15" or so so anything you put back there is going to have to stay behind the wheels.

not sure about the trep - the rear deck in the 300M is only 14.5" tall. I had to beat my box into place smashing the insulation material on top of it. I've designed boxes, but not for 2 15's, certainly not for two ported 15's... that would be A HUGE box.

FranxxVideos on youtube did it, but he ported his rear deck. I figured It would stay behind the insulation unless we can make it fit. Anyone got any dimensions?

You wont get 15" subs tucked under the rear deck in an Intrepid or an M. The box will have to be built out into the truck area a few inches to allow for the taper of the the speaker. This is a custom built box that fits under the the rear deck with 12" subs....as you can see there isn't much more room to go bigger. I can still get to my spare without moving the box too!

What about a sealed box? Would that fit in the Intrepid? I was also thinking about an inverted setup.. Would that change anything, fitment wise?

Thanks guys!

No offense but buying equipment before knowing application was a mistake. Sell the 15's or move the subs back into the trunk more.

He got the system for SUPER cheap from a friend who went to competitions.. and won. I honestly don't blame him for buying it, but he said he's going to make it work somehow. Maybe make two boxes and put them behind the wheel wells? I'm not sure. It will be loud once he works something out though.

Thanks for the help!

Well, bass is not very directional like treble is. Some folks put them on the sides and point them toward each other.

behind the wheel wells wont work, your only option is to put a huge ass box in the middle of the truck, with the subs on an angled up towards the trunk lid. kiss your trunk space good bye!!

I had a hard time fitting a a box for a 10" sub behind the well, firberglassing a closer fit would have helped but for a 15? I dunno. I don't think it will fit there. Plus you don't want them aimed right at each other.

I found a box on hifisoundconnection (dot) com that might work. I'm pretty sure it would fit right behind the insulation part in the trunk. It fits 2 15s, has a 10" mounting space (type r's need 9-5/16"), and a 3 cubic foot space for each sub (type r's need 2.9 cubic feet for each in a ported box). It'll be a tight fit, but it might work.

What's the box size? I doubt if it will fit thru the trunk opening....

It's 40" wide, 18" high, and 19-1/2" deep. I just thought we could wedge it in somehow..
