I understand that they are still everywhere on the road but their hasn't been a new one made in the past 10 years.

Found a few sellers with $495 BIN price but it comes from Hong Kong. Put in a lowball best offer and got a counter offer of $465. Still needs to be a lower price for me to jump on one!

If the map software isn't easily or cheaply upgradeable...it's way overpriced IMHO! Then there's the sound quality output to contend with for audio. Maybe if it were in the $300-350 range.

I'd be interested as well if I knew for a fact it would fit and work correctly in a 1st gen..... It'd also give me a reason to try and vacuum for a custom bezel.... I'm going to keep watching this.

I know this thread is three years old, but did anyone ever actually get one of these radios?

The seller I am looking at on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281147413432...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) has them for $400, but it specifically says that they are only compatible with 2002 Intrepids and up; my Trep ES is a 99. I thought it might just be a matter of the single connector vs dual connector, and I already have an adapter in mine as I have an RBQ head unit, but might there be more to it? They say the unit can be bought with either a single connector or dual connector harness, so I am thinking wiring alone can't be it. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Antenna plug would be different.

I've seen comments about them somewhere, where they say the quality is not very good.

Yeah, Mike (Micholob) bought one and he said he wasn't all that impressed. I think he had a write-up on it somewhere but I don't feel like taking the time to search for it.

I made my own double din bezel so that I could install a standard double din head unit.
No fiberglass needed, but there is some cutting to do under the dash.

Found his comments :

Lesser issues: The sd card door never stayed in place, always fell open. The green color used for the backlight is not even a close match to the factory radio color. The user manual was poorly translated and of no help at all.

So he didn't sound impressed, but still.... Better than an RB1. :-)

A few comments.......

First...have you seen where this coming from? China! You might see it in 2-3 weeks if at all.

I've bought much smaller/cheaper (less than $5) stuff from a couple of different sellers that shipped from China and they arrived in a couple of weeks.I just wouldn't trust that amount of money to a Chinese seller. Sorry.

2nd the cable shown in the pictures at the top of the auction listing is for a 2002-2004 car.
However further down in the main body of the auction there's one picture that shows both cables for 1998-2001 and 2002-2004. The 1998-2001 cable is shown as item #22. You might want to contact the seller to see if both cables are included or only the 2002-2004 cable as shown in the top pictures.

And as I mentioned earlier you need to check on what kind of NAV software is installed and whether it can be upgraded. I suspect it's based on an old OS like Win CE. If it can't be upgraded what good is it? And as far as being better than an RB1 for NAV functions....I highly doubt it. And if the other functions crap out within a few weeks or a month you're left with an expensive WallyWorld POS as an equivalent.
