I think Mike had problems using the RB1's navigation feature. If I had to guess I'd say that he might have had outdated software but I don't know for sure.

I looked up the NAV software, it's called iGo and updates are available. According to another thread you have to do a little file renaming to install the update though.

Looking at a Viper thread at http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/...eadunit./page5 where a number of people have the units... they are a mixed bag. The ones that work seem to really like them but about half of them seem to have the units fail after a couple of weeks. From what I gather, the older models with the external microphone work better than the newer models with the built in microphone.

Ugh. I love the look of these units and the feature list is perfect but not sure I want to gamble $400 on a 50% dice roll. But I also really don't want to cut up my dash. Maybe I'll have to go with one of those single DIN units with flip-out screens. I did see a reference that Jensen has some 1.5 DIN units but can't find them.

Looking around some more, it seems different units come with different NAV software, or not at all. The hardware appears to support multiple NAV possibilities.

There is apparently a new model:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/A8-ch...042002005.html

It's still WindowsCE based rather than Android, though.

EDIT: This is referred to as an S100 platform; I saw a reference on a Russian site that I believe implies there's an S150 platform that is Android. Trying to track it down.

Here is an S100 demo, although it's not on the Chrysler/Dodge form factor, it matches the screenshots of the one that fits ours:

Digging up this old thread, but there is an Android based unit now: http://www.witson.com/en/displayprod...roID=102507287

Some of the displays are a little dull (but probably better as less distracting) but this one has OBD support as well. I think I may jump on it.

Interesting that there's an Android OS version now.

Every time I see these I'm tempted by them. They look OEM, and the OEM look is the only way I'd ever put an aftermarket unit in my car...but about the quality...I have to wonder.

I don't expect them to be perfect, but if they are Android they should be to some extent customizable.

Reviews for all of these Chinese units are all over the map which leads me to think quality control is spotty, so some people get great units and some get lemons.

I plan to be in my Trep another 3-5 years at least, and I hate the thought of a cruddy install kit and can't bring myself to hack the dash to try to fit a 2DN unit.

I ordered the S160 Android version from Hifimax; they seemed to be the only ones who carried it, Everyone else has the wince version.

After I ordered, I got:

THANK YOU! WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS!
Your Order Number is: 7

7? That doesn't inspire confidence... I may have just thrown away $400. We shall see.

If/when it comes in, I'll start a new thread with my trials and tribulations.

Chris

Aaand I just got an E-mail that the Android unit is not in stock and asking if I will accept the WinCE version instead. Ugh.

I hope so. I feel like WinCE is dying and it seems pointless to buy into it now.

Starting to swing back to thinking about moving the climate control down to the cubby and hacking open the remaining two bays to fit in a nice unit. My wife just got a brand new Journey with the 8.4" touchscreen and I'm getting serious screen envy.

They did. Can't fault their customer service one bit, very responsive.

As I recall, when Micholob bought this head unit on ebay the seller claimed that the price was listed incorrect but that they would honor the listed price. At the time I was thinking about buying one too. I guess I have to wonder if these "mistakes" are part of their sales plan?
