The sail and door speakers on the drivers door BOTH go out from time to time. When they go out, they go out together.
I can 'bring them back' if I turn the radio up to about 2/3 volume. Then both speakers will run again for a while. No distortion or crackling, just cut outs.
I've swapped speakers with the right side door and the problem stays to the left. Seems to me this means it's either the wiring or the amp.
DRBIII is supposed to be able to generate test tones and read amplifier errors (including speakers/wiring that cuts out), but I don't have access to a DRBIII.
I am trying to decipher the wiring harness info in the parts manual (page 008-1505) to identify any junction connectors between the amp and the door speakers. I'd be inclined to spray some contact cleaner into those connectors (if any). I've already cleaned the speaker connectors themselves.
Weather permitting, I'll probably spend Sunday afternoon chasing the wiring harness back from the door to the amp and radio, taking everything apart and using my favorite contact cleaner *everywhere*.
I see a collection of the Infinity II amps on ebay for less than $50 each. If I could verify that the Infinity I and II amps are interchangeable, I'll probably pick one up.
