Radar/Laser detector(I guess this would go here)

I just got a radar/laser detector today and I was wondering if there was anyone who could tell me if there is a fuse I could wire it to so it would turn on and off when the car was turned on and off. not to mention I could hide the cord then
as is now I have to reach all he way to the front of the dashboard and turn it off or unplug it from the lighter, and the cord runs up my dash and looks like crap.

I used to hard wire all my detector cords under the drivers side a-pillar

just run power form an accessory port on the fuse box and find a nice ground point under dash

only takes a few minutes to do this and the results are like you said, hidden, clean and it turns itself on with the ignition

I believe I'm not allowed to have a radar detector here in Ottawa. But without even one pull over to date, I dont think I should have to worry about that.

It's not illegal to own a detector. It's just illegal to use it. Kinda weird that way. Either way, I never hit the Queensway without my V1.

I guess the first gens lighter plug is always on? I have mine plugged into my lighter (of a second gen) and it turns on and off with the car.

Any, as for your question, if you have a laser antenna in your detector it's best to have it as low on the windsheild as possible. But don't allow the wipers to get in the way and block it. In this configuration it's easiest to run the wire down the back of the dash. Not a pleasant thing to do, but better than running a wire down the front of the dash or up the windsheild...

well I got it done. actualy ended up rather simple I connected the positive wire to my radio fuse and connected the negative to the same place as my alarm and then I ran the wire under the front part of the dash. I have to say it looks pretty clean :-)

It is bad that the cops here in Canada have the ability to detect detectors in cars

The wiring you are talking about sounds like something I'd like to do in my second gen, but I have no idea where to begin. Any of you know where I can find some instructions for wiring a detector like that?

Intrepidatious had a nice setup with his radar detector. He had the wires ran and spliced into his OTIS/domelights install. The wires went from there along the OTIS/Sunroof/domelights track down the a-pillar.

I hardwired my radar detector today, took me about 15 minutes. I have the radar detector right in the middle of the window, so i ran the wire up the window into the ceiling, I just tucked it into the ceiling cover over to the a pillar, there is a piece of trim that is held on by one screw, you can see it when you open the door, I just ran the wire down the a pillar behind this trim, then through a small hole by the fuse box, then across the kneedash to the stereo, and quickconnected it to the accessorie wire going to the headunit, so when I turn on my ignition, the radar detector comes on, and when i turn off the ignition... I think you get the idea.
On another note, radar detectors arent illegal here in missour, but the cops use vg-2 (radar detector-detector)and if they know you have a radar detector, they find some reason to pull you over. anyway, my radar detector is vg-2 undetectable, so the cops dont know I have one. My radar detector does real good against radar, gives me alot of warning, but it doesnt warn laser until youre right up on it, as with all radar detectors, its just hard to detect laser, especially if youre driving behind another vehicle.

My problem now is I'm not sure about what this "accessory" wire/attachment is that is frequently mentioned. Is this something I should be able to identify easily?
