ok all i want to do is take outthe pos casstte player and replace it wiht a 1-disc cd player. is this going to be difficutlt and/or expenseinve i may hav efound something but im not to bright when it comes to this stuff. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...DX1000&o=p&a=0
That cd player there is an add on, which means you still need your pos tape player for it to work. It plugs inline with the FM antenna and plays on a certain frequency, for example... plugging a vcr into a tv, and the tv has to be on 3 for the vhs to play through. You would plug this inline with the antenna, and the stereo would have to be on a certain frequency for it to play through. You are looking for somethin along the lines of this...
Not very costly, and it doesnt have all the shits and giggles, but it will do what you want it to. And it has preouts incase you decide to upgrade with an amp later on. However if you do decide to get more serious about car audio later on, I would suggest a more expensive headunit, with more features. and when you order from crutchfield, make sure you give them your vehicle specifications and they will include your mounting bracket, wiring harness, and detailed instructions (what wire goes to what).
just for your information, i've had many dealings with crutchfield, and I highly recommend them. I don't usually do free advertising, but I've always been treated with respect, and their help line is incredible. If you do buy a reciever from them, any questions you might have, they can answer
I agree, especially if your just starting up with car-stereo, crutchfield is a good idea, and so it Best Buy. Youll notice Best Buy and Crutchfield's prices are almost identicle. But if you buy from crutchfield they usually add in theconnectors and template for free. Plus you can call whenever you want for tech support.
