New guy from San Diego

Hey y'all, just wanted to say hi. Been lurking for a bit. I just bought a 2000 Intrepid 3.2. Should be a good commuter and family car. Looking forward to reading the wealth of knowledge.

Welcome! It's crazy how much cleaner cars are out west, the East coast (rust belt/ northeast) cars are pretty much junk within 5 years.

Welcome to the site.

How many miles? Might need to change the timing belt to keep her running for many more years.

Late!

Sorry for the late reply.

Currently at 282,700. All original. I may take a look, but she is running strong for now. Really just needs shocks...

Typically the paint is roasted and the dashboards take a beating. But yeah, no rust.

Looks great, including the leather seats!

What Chris (Scooter-Man) is getting at is that if the timing belt is original, it is way overdue. If it breaks (and chances are very high at that mileage and years that it will), engine damage (bent valves) can occur because the engine is what is called interference type (meaning if the belt breaks, the crankshaft and cams get out of sync., and the pistons and valves crash into each other before the engine coasts down to a stop). Water pump would need to be replaced at the same time. Change interval is 105k miles.

It may be that they have been replaced and that you just arenít aware of it - and that would be a good thing. You canít tell by looking at the belt - the breakdown occurs to the strong cords internal to the belt construction. If you can, try to find out from the previous owner if it was done or not.

Not trying to be Negative Nelly - just giving you reality.

Another heads up-DO NOT USE MUNROE Shocks/Stuts on Intrepid/LHS. They probably wont last 5000 miles.

Your car looks like it is in great shape! Especially the interior. Would not have guessed your car had that many miles on it. Nice!
