Hello, my name is Ralph. I have a 99 intrepid. Just changed alternator yesterday, car shuts off while driving. Code comes up P1684. What is going I on?

Most likely a Camshaft Position Sensor or Crankshaft Position Sensor. Sensor might just be starting to fail and not storing a code yet.

Does the car restart easily or does it take a long time to fire?
If buying replacement sensors get these only from the dealer. Aftermarket for these particular sensors is Crap!

P1684 Battery Loss In The Last 50 Starts
The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts.
That code is there almost constantly! Nothing to be concerned with.

You should reply in this thread rather than sending a PM to me as you did. Others may be able to offer useful information.

Here's my response to your Private Message again so it's public.

I'm going say to Crankshaft Position Sensor for a No Start condition. If it's the Camshaft position Sensor usually it'll start but won't run above 2500 rpm. Your mechanic could also disconnect the Camshaft Position Sensor and see if it starts. If it does then it'll be the Camshaft Sensor.

The other item is a broken timing belt/slipped timing/Bad timing belt tensioner. When was the Timing belt last changed. It's supposed to be done every 120k miles or 8 years whichever comes first.
