I'm now in the LH world

Been a Mopar lover all my life, and wanted an Intrepid for a long time. Well, I finally took the plunge today, but something happened along the way - I became a Concorde fan!

The Concorde was a car I had never really considered - nothing wrong with them, I just liked the Intrepid's sporty image, and that's what I wanted (unless a 300M came up at the right price!). But, while shopping around this week for a replacement for my faithful '88 Fifth Avenue, I happened upon a gold '99 Concorde for $8995. I took it for a spin, and decided it was perfect for me. I prefer the dash and gauges to that of the Intrepid, and it provides a relaxed driving experience without being a stuffy old grandpa car. It just plain feels good.

My Concorde has the 2.7 (which ain't a bad motor at all - plenty of power for merging and is so far averaging 24 mpg in mostly city driving), the usual power stuff, traction control, remote keyless entry, trip mileage computer, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. I'm looking forward to having it for a long time (but I'm not looking forward to having to replace the battery!).

sounds like a good buy. replacing a battery is really just routine maintainence. when my battery died in my concorde shortly after i bought it i decided to upgrade to a better battery: optima yellow top deep cycle. you can get a new one shipped to you for less than $150 on ebay.

I'm referring to the location of the battery. Man, it took me a couple minutes of staring under the hood to find the darned thing! (As you 2nd-gen owners certainly know, it's underneath the airbox.)

I put the dealer photo in my photo gallery if you want to take a look.

300M gauges

Thanks, partyboy - the interior color matches, too. The day I test-drove it, the weather was sunny and 75 degrees, and I was imagining a nice, long summer trip before I got out of the dealer's parking lot. It's the kind of car you can just chill and drive, but, of course, it's got a little balls if you need it.

I noticed that someone here has swapped a 300M gauge cluster into a Concorde like mine. Is that a plug & play swap? Looks like something I might think about doing sometime if I don't have to fool around with it too much. Maybe I might want the bigger tires & rims from the 300M, but I do NOT want those ugly-ass 20" ghetto rims. Let the rap stars and wannabees have 'em.

One other thing - I'm going to install an aftermarket CD/MP3 stereo next week; it was in my old car and I just got it last year. Factory unit is the standard AM/FM/cassette. Is there anything I need to know about removing the old one? Specifically, does that center trim piece just pull out? The mounting plate is different from what I'm used to (this one has the rounded corners); is it held in with standard screws or bolts, or will I need some kind of special security tool like some Fords I've seen? My 2002 Voyager has the same kind of setup, but when I bought a Kenwood stereo for it recently, I simply had it installed at the shop, and didn't bother to ask what they did. Now I wish I'd have watched them...

Concordes rule. I would look for a 3.2 though.

Yo JD -- welcom to DI.net -- and yes, 2nd gen Concordes are the best!!!

the 300m or LHS cluster swap is plug&play -- it's probably best to get a '99 model to be sure to be compatible with your car.

And the radio trim moulding just pulls out with a little tugging and maybe something to slip under it to help pull. The headunit will come out with 4 simple screws and removal of cable harnesses (some have snap connectors that need to be depressed). No special tools required -- enjoy and have fun -- lots of good advice on this site!
