Smile Buying First Intrepid!!!!

Okay people. Here it is I am buying my very first 1994 Dodge Intrepid. The Car has 112,00 Miles on it and is showroom condition in and out. The seller is asking what seems to me to be a MERE $1500.00. My question is: I heard that this particular year has some transmission problems. Does anyone have any info confirming this? What are your opinions? I dont want to waste my money however it seems like a sweet deal. Thanks.

welcome to the site, if you can give us more info in reguard to the options, condition, and if you have maintance records for the car. the trannys, with proper maintance will last a long time. probably the first thing i would do is a flush and filter with atf+4.

My first intrepid was a '94, and the transmission went out in it at about 80,000 miles. I have purchased the warranty, so it was covered, but it was an over $800 US repair. I would check if the transmission is original, and if it is, has it been maintained or serviced? If it has been replaced, and they do it like mine, there is a sticker that will be in the engine department with the date that the transmission was flashed (reprogrammed).

Hope this helps!

I'd give 10 points for the 3.3--remember waterpump and timing belt are 100,000 mile maintenance items-if the weren't done you are looking at 300-400 dollars.(probably at least)

Best thing, take the car to a trusted mechanic, and ask them to perform a checkup. Ask them whether the proper maintenance appears to have been performed on the vehicle.

3.3 has the timing chain....replace the chain, check the tranny fluid, check the inner and outer tirod ends....other than that...3.3's are very reliable.

Hey Thanks alot for the advice people. I got the car now and I have to say I like it. Good power..very comfortable. The strong arms for the hood are shot though...and the pedal feels a little rough when driving...Ill have a mechanic give it the once over and get a full engine and tranny tune up. Hope shes a keeper. My last sweetheart Sylvia (pictured below) let me down.
:mg:
