Smile Trep owner, new member

Hello all. I've been an Intrepid owner for one year now. I have a 99, 2.7L with 91,000 km on it (no problems yet except for a bad starter)...bought it when it had 67,000 km. I used to drive nothing but Chevy's but I have been converted.

I like this vehicle alot. Wife hates it, but who cares...she has her own (03 Buick Rendezvous). I found this forum because I was wondering if anything could be done about the cruise control downshifting when going downhill. I'm on the highway 90% of the time and live by mountains.

But my enthusiasm about this car has grown even more by seeing the pics that some of you posted. Great looking cars people. Maybe i'll be able to show mine soon too.

Hope to talk to you soon (not about problems, I hope)

I'm not 100% sure but I think that the cruise control is designed to do that so that the car will not exceed the preset speed. It does not have the capabilities of applying the brakes because for safety the brakes disengage the speed control. You may find that most, if not all cruise controls work that way.

Welcome to the site and enjoy!!

disengage the cruise control by tapping the brake when you roll downhill if you want to coast without downshifting.

Actually this is the only car that I've ever seen with this feature. It's a cool feature but some find it annoying.

Welcome to the site and enjoy your Intrepid

Thanks for the welcome.

I found out about the cruise by reading and doing a search. I'm not new to forums so I know how to find info (that's how I found this place).

I haven't done anything to this car since I bought it so the first thing is to detail it. I've already downloaded info on proper cleaning, waxing, and polishing. It's going through its second harsh winter (living on top of a mountain can do that to ya) so, this summer, I'm going to take real good care of the paint and insides. After all that, that's when I'll look at adding a few things, like spoiler, OTIS, new speakers (I got a Sony CD/MP3 Player installed...lights match the interior LED and lights), etc.

This place has all the info I need and if by any chance I find something, I'm sure to let everyone know.

Again, thx for the welcome.

p.s i'll get my scanner to work today and post a pic or two.
