2004 Intrepid SE

Hello all,

I just ran across DodgeIntrepid.net while surfing for Intrepid forums very nice site, I recently purchased a 2004 Intrepid SE with the 2.7 Engine and noticed theres several issues with the 2.7, has Dodge revised this engine since the early years of the 2.7's? seems most of the problems i've read on the forums have been pre 2002 Intrepid's. Has anyone had any problems in the newer models with the 2.7 Engine? I feel confident with having the basic warranty that goes to 36K and the 7/70 protection as well.

Welcome to the site!

Seems like most of the problems were pre 2001. From varying sources, the oil pressure was raised for 2001. I don't think the journals were changed though. There haven't been a noticeable amount of trouble on the newer engines, but most probably haven't gone past the usual trouble point (Above 60K miles). Nearly everyone will recommend running full synthetic oil after an engine flush if it's been running dino oil. If it's low miles, you will probably be able to just switch over to synthetic at your next oil change, and use synthetic from there forward.

If you plan on having the car for a long time and put a lot of miles on it, the timing chain, tensioner and water pump (internal) should be changed around 100K.

Thanks for the information, I do plan on switching over to synthetic oil on the next oil change, that should make a difference from regular oil if it breaks down quicker in those 2.7 engines.

2002 Intrepid 4 (45K, purchased last month). When I switched to Mobil 1 there was even a slight drop in my temperature guage reading. Less friction, less heat. That synthetic's good stuff!

Heh, a "2.L with 105k and still going strong" That's what I've been waiting to hear!

Wait, fertilize your lawn with used motor oil??? Alot cheaper that Scotts! Which works better synthetic or conventional....? (this was a joke, right?)

Does anyone know if any of the Intrepid SE's come with ABS and Traction control? I have the SE with the keyless entry and power seats, however it didn't come with ABS or Traction control. These must be standard items on the ES version.
