While hiding from the rain today and playing on the computer, I came across this site. Never would have thought there was a place dedicated to Intrepids. Way too cool. I'll greatly enjoy looking around and reading.
Anyway, I have a beautiful, dark green, fully optioned but stock '98 ES. It has close to 90k miles now and is one of the best cars I've ever owned. I love it! So far, repairs have consisted of changing out the radiator fans, installing a new battery and replacing a few fuses. I drive country roads almost exclusively and average right around 30 mpg when not running the a/c... but it's a road eating mothersticker when the need arises. Although I usually drive rather slowly, I feel absolutely comfortable and stable when setting the cruise on 110 to bring it on home. It's also a very intelligent car as it's the only one I've ever driven (including 2005 Chrysler products) that will downshift itself to maintain set cruising speed when going down steep hills. Fortunately, this "feature" is easily overridden by pulling the autostick back into manual mode.
I had a bad scare in August when a dumb hillbilly chick almost took the front end off in an ill-fated lapse of consciousness. It required four extended stays at bodyshops to get it right again. The work was finally completed last Monday... but it's properly done.
One of these days I may do some modifications on it to improve airflow, etc. but wonder if there are any easy aftermarket mods like "chips" that will improve performance and economy.
