jumping in all the way time to swim or die

well i am new to this site. i just bought a 96 intrepid not to long ago for a grande. now i am gearing up to sink more than that into it. i think the rod bearings went so i replaced them. 100 dollar mistake now i am going to pull the motor and rebuild it myself. if you guys have any pointers i am all ears. and i will keeepv you posted on my progress right now i have evrything off the front only took me about a hour thanks to my trusty sledge wich worked quite well for removing the ac unit gonna be a hot one this summer lol. any way i figure i should be able to have it out and tore down by the weekend.if any one is curuios as to what it sounds like when your rod bearings go in a 3.5 sounds like someone is inside the engine with a hammer trying to get out.and 2500 for a mechanic to fix it is rediculous you can do it yourself and save a thousand or better i will keep a record of the total cost mind you this is a total engine teardown and rebuild.

I recommend getting an engine from junk yard. I was considering rebuilding one, but it would cost me 1200 just in parts. Bought a 65k from the junk for 500. Runs like new. Whatever you decide is fine though... Welcome to the club.
