Is the DIY Tinting @ Wally World Any Good?

I saw it for like $12 and was wondering if it is worth it. I think it would look really nice with some tinting done, but I don't really want to spend that much on it. Any ideas?

Thanx in advance for the replies

P.S. I am thinking of doing this to my van where the windows are MUCH flatter than the one's on an LH.

My buddy did his car with the walmart cheap stuff. But I think you get what you pay for. He got his side windows to look good but the backone wouldnt stick.

it should work fine for you since it's for your van and the windows are easier to reach.

Flat windows would work. Stay away from the curves though.

I am sure you know this but just making sure....

Remember that you have to set the film below the door trim.

It's not the tint you have to worry about...it's the tinter! I had that tint on my SE for two years...never had a problem with peeling, fading, bubbling, etc

Wow really? I would like to see pics of that. The Trep windows would seem really hard to tint IMO.

Not at all! Just take the panals off and cover the whole window. If you lived in Chicago I would help you out.

you ask is it worth it...yes it's worth about 12 bucks LOL but seriously it's a huge pain to deal with. As a window tinter, and for the price, I had to give the "Gila brand" wally film a try and it faded to purple in less than 2 months. It's a cheap dyed polyester film which is only 1mm thick compared to 1.4 - 2mm quality films. The thinness makes you want to crumble it up and throw it on the ground before you even get it on the glass because you can hardly work with it. The fact that it will fade in the sun to a gross purple color in just a few months makes it not even worth the time to do a quality install. Once it fades and you want to get it off, the poorly designed adhesive layer will make your film removal even more of a pain to get off than to put on. Some good advise is to get a quality lifetime warranty film professionally installed. Someone mentioned the intrepid bieng difficult to tint...that is true. The shape of our car you can see just by looking at our side rollup glass that they are obviously curved, meaning the film will need to be thermoformed to fit the glass properly as well as the larger than normal backglass window, our backglass is very wide, very tall and yes curved enough to be quite a painful install. have fun

Back in the day the Gila stuff was top of the line, but that was a loooooong time ago. Lots has changed since then. If you are trying to save some money why not try the stuff on Ebay that is already pre-cut? That will be your biggest headache.

Me and my dad tinted his truck windows and I tinted my mustangs windows not very easy at all it takes a lot of time. But if you do it right it is alright, I would rather just pay to have it done and get the warranty

This is for my Van, not for the Trep. My Van is kind of an oddball and is very hard to find parts for so the pre-cut stuff isn't avaliable.

oh ya i forgot it was for the van...shouldn't be to diffcult to tint. I suggest just going to a tint shop that uses brand name films (3M, madico, llumar, solarguard, etc.), if you install the film yourself there is no warranty. Start by asking how much a sq.ft. you can buy the film to do it yourself and then ask what they would charge to do it for you. A lot of times if i know someone wants to tint themselves I'll give a little discount...plus you know it will be a quality job and you get the warranty.
