Alittle late on the thread but i figured i'd post my preferences anyway.
Personally I don't use protectant anymore on my vehicles or in details, If the protectent has any silicone in it at all you have to make sure you reapply that stuff every so often for the life of the panel. Once you silicone treat a panel you've gotta keep it up or it will prematurly warp and fade, its just what happens. Stuff thats designed to protect usually has some amounts of silicone in it, and thus you should keep using it, you probably dont have to if its low amounts of silicone (low gloss) but you should. Theres nothing wrong with using protectant stuff and it works good as long as you use it consistently- it does its job as long as its reapplied.
I use my foam away (from vesco oil corp.) to clean everything in the interior and it leaves everything with the flattest shine you can imagine, it all looks amazingly clean because there is such a naturally fresh look to it.
