Ok I did a complete exterior cleanup of my corde. I will post pics of the products and my car after work.
First off I have the original mr. clean gun, so I just used that for shooting water.
I set up the tent you see in my sig and had the car underneath.
I hosed the car down with water several times, making sure its all nice and wet.
I had a gallon bucket with water with 4 capfulls of Meguiars Car Wash: Deep Crystal.
I did the first wash using a 2-sided mitt that had cotton fibers on one side and some blue sheet with a screen on the other.
I hosed the car down and did a second wash using a sheepskin mitt.
I air dried it. This consisted of me hitting 100mph on the back street. I came back and cleaned up all the water that was left, which was barely any.
Now the fun begins.
Making sure the car was completely dry, I started to look for scratches and imperfections in the paint. I took a dry terry towel and shook up some Meguiars Scratch-X and applied to the these areas. Most came right off, while some were chips right to the metal
After all this the REAL fun begins.
I bought the Mothers Clay Bar kit which came with a clay bar, a spray bottle of Mothers Showtime Detailer, and Mothers Carnuba Wax.
I begun my first ever attempt at clay barring. I did some reasearch prior to doing all this so I know that I *cannot* drop the clay bar on the ground and that I *must* make sure the surface area and my hand are lubricated. So I started to clay bar with 2 by 2 foot areas leaving the windows for last. This was a fun experience and you really have to put some arm into it if its really dirty, it doesn't just pick up it all, you gotta be rough with it. After each section I would wipe it up with a clean dry microfiber towel.
This clay barring took me about 2 hours for the whole car, but I mean the whole car, I got the edges of the wheel wells and the underneath of the body panels, everything that is painted.
Next was the polishing. For this I purchased Turtle Wax ICE kit. In this kit was Turtle Wax ICE liquid polish wax, a mircofiber towel, and an applicator for the wax. Directions were to shake the bottle and apply to the applicator and coat the entire car in a thin layer. This took a fairly quick amount of time compared to the clay barring.
After the thin layer was set, you wait 3-5 minutes for the wax to dry to a haze and then you take one side of the clean microfiber towel and wipe off the excess. After that you take the other clean side and put some arm into it to polish it in. (I should have used my sheepskin mitt for this, but it was still wet) So I started buffing with the microfiber towel.
After all that I decided I wanted more wax so I did another layer but using a different product. For the second layer I used Meguiars Liquid Wax: Gold Class kit. In the kit was the liquid wax and an applicator. (no microfiber towel here, those motherfuckers) Same principle, except you cannot do this in the sun, thanks to my nice blue tower of joy (the cannopy in my sig) I did not have that problem. So I start laying a thin layer and letting it haze, pick it up with a clean fresh dry microfiber towel and then buff that mofo!
After all this is the detailing touches. For all the exterior black stuff (plastic or rubber) I used Mothers Back to Black. I just used a clean terry towel for this and the results were excellent. *Just a tip* You need to buff this stuff extra good cuz it will leave a residue and since you will most likely touch the pillars when you open your doors its something you do not want to be slippery.
All the windows I just cleaned with Armor All Glass Cleaner Spray. After the windows were claybarred, they really didnt need any extra cleaning, but I did it anyway.
All the clear plastic parts like the front lights, the corner lights and the rear lights I used Meguiars Clear Plastic Cleaner.
Without pics this thread is garbage, but I will post em later. And I hope this will help with anyone who is thinking about detailing their exterior but needs more info.
GOOD LUCK AND I WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT THE GOOD INFORMATION ON THIS SITE!!!!
p.s. this is soo smooth now that you just wanna throw your gf down on the hood and you know what!!! HEHEEH
