Go vs Show

I'm a strong believer that a car should never look faster than it is. I've seen some mediocre cars with tens of thousands of dollars put into show, but nearly none into the GO. So the car looks great, but is still slow.

Anyone else share this view? I'd rather put those tens of thousands of dollars into either a new faster car or some GO for the current car.

EDIT: For example, if I somehow got my hands on an STi or something...if I had the money I'd do it up to look like something completely different, a more mainstream car. Then when people want to race, really unleash the beast :P.

u are perfectly right thats why i usually hate pimp my ride i just cant see putting 10k in a car onjly to still have the stock motor/drivetrain i would rather put 10k in a car that looks completely stock but will put the fear of GOD into anyone who wants to race

Different people like different things. Personally having a fast-ass shit ball looking car is just as stupid to me as a fast ass looking car with a 90 HP 4 cyl. What would you rather have....A super gorgeous woman who is a dead fuck, or a fat nasty wort hog of a woman that is fuckin great in the sack? Both get the job done, one does it while lookin good, so personally I would rather have a fast ass lookin car that isnt that fast then vise-versa

Exactly how I feel.

While it's nice to make a few performance upgrades, keep in mind that the speed limit stays the same. If you guys want to drop $10,000 into your car and then drive 100mph+ down the highway, don't do it in my state. Me, I'll go with small performance items and stick to the visual appeal.

I fixed your post

Maybe I put it wrong, because I hate drag racing and racing in circles like NASCAR. I mean like general performance increase...with anything from top speed to acceleration to handling. I'd rather have a car that doesn't really look that great that'll rally with the best of them than a car who looks incredible but won't go 90 without shaking.

I agree, I hate Pimp My Ride. Because while the car may look brand new, the engine will probably still break down, unless they put a brand new engine in, which makes using the XX year old frame stupid, might as well build a brand new car.

I like to balance the two.... For every appearance mod, I need something under the hood to match.

I'm not a fan of the primer gray with hail dents on Z28s, nor am I a fan of chameleon paint and awesome wheels on a Civic DX with the same old 1.6L SOHC 8V POS engine under the hood! There are certain mods I despise on any ride and they can be described with one word: RICE!

I had the following priorities with my car when I bought it:
1: Pass smog and safety checks (both passed without incident). Tune up engine and perform other maintenance.
2: Make sure the ride is comfy (add a nice sound system with some road noise control, condition leather, clean carpets, etc)
3: Make it FAST (PCM, plenum, intake, swaybar, etc)
4: Make it look cool: add more gadgets, fix that crack in the bumper, and add some HIDs, you know the drill.

Priorities three and four usually are done in lock step, it's more fun that way! Note..... three and four never seem to end..... I like it that way!

2004 300M Special...257K miles. Original powertrain!

3 and 4 don't ever end.

Balance is the key to life, right? For the first couple of years I kept a good balance, then I went off the deep end. There's only so fast we can make these cars and only so much we can do to change/improve their appearance. Although, there's a couple on this site who have done a fantastic job on making the car totally unique.
