Camshaft Tensioner Pulley Help!

How do you install the camshaft tensioner pulley on a 2004 Chrysler Concorde 3.5l? Plus what must be done after replacing the tensioner?

It is not a small job and from the looks of it, you may have a fairly large problem there (these are interference engines).

You need to take your time, remove the radiator cover, the upper radiator hose, the ac belt, the alternator belt and pulley,
the fan assembly, the cranshaft pulley (harmonic balancer/vibration dampner) and then the black sheet metal cover and aluminum cover.

Once you get down this far, you can set the crankshaft on the mark and the camshaft on their respective marks and install a new belt.

Or you can install the old belt and see if it still runs ok. If it runs really bad then you probably have bent valves and you can make
a decision from there. If it runs ok, then you're lucky and you can do the complete new water pump and timing belt replacement.

How many miles are on the car? And do you know if the Timing Belt was ever changed before?

If it's the original belt that explains the mess under the covers. Hope you don't have bent valves!

If I do have bent valves what does that mean usually?

If the valves are bent, you have three options
1. You'll need to remove the heads and have them rebuilt.
Here in Indy they charge $150 per head + the cost of each bent valve that needs to be replaced.

2. Find a low mileage replacement engine and swap it in.

3. Just junk it.

I just hope there's no fee involved for the obvious reference.

Of course, I could pay it off by bringing more healthy Scotch to the Southern meet.
