clunking in steering/A/C condenser

I have a distant "clunking" sound in my steering at low speeds, it's been there since before I bought the car and does'nt SEEM to be causing any problems, anyone have any thoughts?? Also, when I turn on my A/C or put the vents to defog/defrost, there is a bunch of chitty chitty bang bang noises, then it's kinda loud, reminds me of a playing card in bicycle spokes sound, and it doesnt stop, any thoughts on either of these woiuld be appriciated, and let me add that I LOVE my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the steering clunk sounds like steering rack bushings. Mine do that too.

The AC sounds you hear are the ac compressor. Does the ac work?

Steering rack bushings, have you replaced them? If so, how much? And has yours dont it for a period of time? I don't think it's doing any harm, but I don't want something to suddenly fail on the freeway, haha. On my A/C, it was workin it's last little bit last summer here in Sacramento..poor thing, but it's pretty dead now, cooling wise. I havent had it really looked at as I have been doin a ton of other more serious work to get it back up where it should be. Any info is hugely appreciated, thanx! Oh yeah, any idea on the price also of a compresor? J

Rack bushings are reasonbly priced and not to bad to put in. The clunking may also be the anti sway bar link. Its a rod about 12" behind each front wheel that hooks the strut to the anti sway bar. This is a cheap and easy fix. I had to replace both the bushings and links on my 94. I got the links from Napa and the bushings from Chrysler. Not to sure about your A/C, my guess would be the compressor. Mine stared to make heat instead of cold and then locked up.
