1993 Eagle Vision

Some days my car acts fine, and other days when I stop at a red light the idle will fall and the car chugs and stalls out. Sometimes I can beat it by putting it in neutral and keeping my foot on the gas. I had it fixed when I first replaced the MAP sensor about two years ago. I also did the Crank and Cam sensors, and I have done the intake plenum gaskets, ETC. making sure we checked everything, put in O rings on the fuel injectors, we also took out the transmission pan - full flush and new gasket.. I don't know I have tried almost everything. I also noticed that even when I have gas in the tank, the light will come on (need gas) when I have a little less than a half tank. The car will still drive, I just have to look at the annoying coming on and off; and when the stalling happened to me today, I had just filled the tank up with 87oc. gas.... I wonder about the quality of gas these days. I can't wait to hear from you, for now I am going to try to get the error code from the ignition.... I'll be back!! Thanks for your interest... Christina

How many miles/and such. Are you having any problems with mileage? Maybe an issue with a fuel filter/pump, but thats just an "out there" guess since you've already replaced the sensors and whatnot. idk though. better to get advice from a professional =P

trouble codes

the codes I got were:
12 = battery connection. Direct battery input to controller disconnected within the last 50 ignition key-on cycles.

13**: Indicates problem with the MAP sensor pneumatic (vacuum) system

21**: Problem with oxygen sensor signal circuit. Sensor voltage to computer not fluctuating

then of course 55: end of error results

155,000 miles and yes the gas light comes on before the tank is empty; at appx. half empty to 1/4 tank... depending on what kind of mood the car is in.

I swear the thing acts possessed!

Idling

Gas IS a factor here. I have a 94 with the same problem. When it happens, I simply buy a higher octane gas (89), and occasioanly run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through.
Mine is particularly susceptible to a certain brand of gas; others are usually ok, while Shamrock causes problems at times.
Try the gas, then try to avoid the cheap/problem-causing stations.

Fuel Sending Unit

As far as the chugging and stalling go, I'm getting ready to replace my oxygen sensors. I've got a bad fuel mixture in my injectors, the passenger side injectors are running really rich. Hoping o2 sensor will fix this. Now with the gas gauge going wild, I have a 93 Vision with the same problems. Plus, will show 1/4 of a tank when it is empty. Problem has to do with the fuel sending unit located on the fuel pump in the trunk. Unit is attached to the pump and can't be replaced seperately from what i've heard. I'm just waiting for the pump to go out before i mess with that. In the mean time I've learned to read my gauge the way it is. Basically, fill me up when my needle is at a 1/4 tank. LOL. Hope this helps.

i think the guage can be changed , people say it cant , but i bet id be able to do it , rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts after installing a need sensor , and a solding gun with some needle nose plyers is all i think would be needed to actually change the sensor..

the sensor is the the tank attached to the fuel pump. I beleive you have to drop the tank to get to it. pn 5014025AA for 93-95

It occurs to me that you might be looking at two separate issues. One is the fuel sender issue; the other is the engine chugging and then stalling out at a light.

You have 150,000+ miles on the clock. Have you had your transmission rebuilt?

The 3.5L engine on my '93 Vision started chugging at a stoplight, the chugging got really bad and the engine would die. Could only keep engine running by going into neutral and revving the engine. Happened when I was on the way to an independent garage for something routine. Turned out that the torque converter was going/had gone bad. Rebuilt trans. and no more problems.

One peculiarity I had, before the chugging started, was that the car would appear to "lurch" on hard acceleration onto the freeway. Didn't happen all the time. Are you getting anything similar?

My experience with reading those diagnostic codes has not been good. I end up reading the flashes in the wrong sequence, i.e. I read "15" when the correct reading is "51." You might reverse the digits on what you are seeing. Might make more sense. Just a suggestion.
