Exclamation Need Answers Please...

Hi. I'm the (proud) owner of a 1993 Eagle Vision 3.5, etc. etc.
Was running fine. When I started the car this morning, I noticed that the guages were no longer working. No speedometer; no fuel guage indication; no hot/cold, etc. Also, the radio was suddenly out as well. When I drove the car, it did not shift out of what I assume is second. No overdrive. Even died on me twice! (started right back up but still)...

I tried checking the fuses on the side driver's panel for guages and for radio. All seemed okay. Not sure what else to check. Any ideas? Also, noticed that the air conditioning was not working properly. I can hear the fan and the air but nothing comes out the vents. Help! I happen to be one of those women who don't know a great deal about cars... and I don't have a big budget. Any advice you have might save me some money as it might point the mechanic in the right direction. Thank you for reading this. -Jenny (Legalblonde)

Your tranny has gone into limp mode. It is designed to keep your transmission from doing anymore damage to itself. I am sorry for you. I am not the di.net tranny expert, but you can try and disconnect the negative cable of your battery for about 20 minutes and this will reset the tcm. This might help, buit probably not. If not you might have a serious problem on your hands.

P.S. Why did the guages go out??? If it is a trans problem, why did the guages go out? -Jenny.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that since your transmission is electronically controlled, you might be having an electrical problem that is also causing your tranny to go into limp mode. These are just theories though.

Right. I know less than nothing about this. But that said, it stands to reason that if the tranny is electronically controlled, and if I am obviously having electrical problems as evidenced by no guages working and radio out...then maybe (fingers crossed here) ....maybe if I can get the electrical problem chased down and corrected...then perhaps my guages, my radio, and most of all my auto transmission might work properly again. I am just hoping that A) mechanic can ascertain exactly what the problem is and B) the problem is not too expensive. Someone keep their fingers crossed for me, please. Thanks. Any other opinions welcomed. -Jenny.

Well, can you bring someone with you who knows stuff about cars, that way you don't get rooked by the mechanic? Hell have a friend check all your fuses before you do anything. I can't believe I didn't say that before (fuses).

It likely went out because the gauge cluster gets its info through the TCM (Transmision Control Module)

If you are still getting lights on your gauge cluster (specificly the "check engine" light), go look under How-To's under first gen and read the second sticky down on how to check codes and report them here

I am getting lights on the "message center" ...i.e. "door open" indicator light. No check engine lights that I can see.

By the way, someone wrote: " It likely went out because the gauge cluster gets its info through the TCM (Transmision Control Module)"

Can you please put this in layman's terms? (or in this case, "laywoman's" terms?) Are you saying you think the TCM might be bad? Or is something else wrong that is causing the TCM to malfunction which in turn is affecting the gauge cluster? I need input ... cause I know zilch about autos...but am newly single and am trying. -Jenny.

Look what I found posted on another message board here in this forum....sounds like this is a common problem of Dodge/Intrepid/Concorde/Eagle owners...AND sounds like NO ONE has a good answer...this guy never got a good answer either. Hopefully my mechanic can figure it out. When/if he does, I'll be sure to post because, no doubt, this will come up again. The following post describes EXACTLY what happened to my Eagle Vision...although this guy was describing his Concorde....

speedometer not working, transmission not shifting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone ran into this instance? Looks like I'm having more problems then I thought. First I noticed my shift indicator on the dash not working properly, so I bought the input and output sensors in an attempt to solve that problem as I have been advised on here - but before I moved the car to the garage, I figured I would go for a little ride.....so I noticed more starge things, not sure if it would be related to the input/output sensors...but maybe someone outthere knows this......1. I have noticed that my speedometer is not working -- 2.transmission doesnt seem to shift past first gear --- 3.when coming to a stop in DRIVE the engine doesnt seem to stay idle, it dies -I start it back up and works just fine.....PLS HELP!!!! anyone know where I can start????? No light on the dash and there are no codes......
