Angry Thump into overdrive?

Hi my name is Tim and this is my first time posting a thread! Anyway, I just got a 1994 Eagle Vision Esi with 125,000 miles. Not bad at all for the year. The car is excellent but it kinda thumps rough into the overdrive gear at about 40-45mph or so. Ive heard a tranny fluid change should fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Make sure you only use mopar ATF 4 and if you don't do it yourself, I suggest buying the fluid and bringing it to the shop, and watching them put it in. And make sure they change the filter and clean the magnet. And tell them to drain the torque converter.

Sooo.....

So you are saying that's it? I was hoping something wasn't wrong with the tranny itself. Ive heard about the MOPAR ATF-4 stuff. U think that's the problem? If so, can I do it myself? Iv'e replaced engines in my camaro I had, but only had this car for a few days. Other than that and a small oil leak(coming from the right side of the engine?) it starts and runs perfect.

it cant hurt. its easy, just drop the pan, clean the magnet and replace the filter, new gasket, replace bolts and fill her. be pre pared to take a bath in ATF, this is me doing mine and no i wasnt sweating...

note the amount of fluid on my shirt. and this stuff makes your mouth numb.

probably it?

Makes your mouth numb huh? That can't be good! Anyway, I appreciate all the input. Thanks a bunch I know hardly anything about these cars. Now, does that sound like something that could cause that hard shift into overdrive? It kinda freaked me out as I just bought it. All the other gears work fine. Someone told me that the tranny fluid losing vescosity messes with the operation of the torque converter. What do ya think? Could it be anything else?

Cool Cool thanks

Alright that sounds good. Ive talked to people who had that same problem, they changed the fluid and filter and never had another problem. If you have any more advice for a new Vision owner you can email me. If not then dont worry about it. Just want to know more about the car. If you can't access it it's mik[email protected] (live with my dad) . That goes for anyone with advice of a solution to this problem. Doesn't affect the car, but would be nice to fix. Thanks again!

Welcome To Di.net. I reckon I am Kinda the Resident Vision Esi Guy.

But Things to make your tranny happy,
External TrannyCooler

And ATF+4. I noticed when I did a Flush Mine behaved alot better and shifts were firm. But I alo Suggest Checking the Tranmission Mount Just to be sure.

And Liek they said, Anyone tell you Friction Modiefiers make it the same tell them no they dont and walk away and find some one who will just put ATF+4 in. I make my shop use it ever car that requires it. To date not one return like we used to before when they used the "Modiefers"

Also, We Encourage our member to Put pictures up.

Also might not be a bad idea to add some anti foam to the fluid while adding it to the filler. About a bottle (they are pretty small) should do. And you never know about how the person before you treated the car. Expect the worse but hope for the best. You might end up needing a new tranny. If you've changed a camaro engine, then you can probably change one of these transmissions. Theres a write up in the how-to section.

Makes it alot cleaner.
