Question another headlamp problem question

I want to replace the orginal weak headlight bulbs on my 96 Eagle Vision
with super bright versions.

But when I try to remove the 2 (per unit) torx screws to pull off the cover I run into trouble

The torx head of both screws on the left unit are striped, and the torx head of the screwdrive won't engage.

The trox screws on the right headlamp just trun, and turn, and turn, and.....

Is there a another way of getting to the bulbs?

Can the whole headlight assembly be removed? And if so how?

BTW, if headlight replacement is such a pain in the ***, how do they do it at the dealership?

Well, either way it sound sliek your going to need a headlight housing unit maybe if the screw just keep turning. You could go with out getting them but, eh.

But while turning the screws pull on them up and they should come out.

What bulbs are you getting in there?

While that may help with the right side, the trox head on the left headlamp assembly wont even accept a torx head secrwdriver.

Is there no way of removing the whole headlamp assembly?

I know how to do it on 2nd gerneration LH cars, I just need the instructions to do it on a 96 Vision

What bulbs are you getting in there?

I can't remember the whole name, but, I think they are called Slyvania Ultra

Sorry for the delay in replying, but, my job has been keeping me away from the computer.

First, thanks for the suggestions, but in the end, I went to the repair shop that fixed my coolant problem and had them replace the headlamps with Sylvana Ultras I got from PepBoys.

BTW - If you are thinking of also buying these headlamps be forewarned. There current flyer states that the bulbs are 50% off the regular price after a $5.00 in store reduction and a $20.00 mail in rebate. However, the computer (at lease in my local store) does not know about the $5.00 reduction. So, it will charge the full price ($49.98), and if you point it out to the manager he will try to convince you that it's a printing error. Stick to your guns and demand the $5.00 reduction. It the only way that the 50% off statement makes any sense.

In my case however, the $5.00 reduction was moot. For that was what my repair shop charged to put in the lamps.

Also, It seems that they "had their way" with my poor Vision TSI. Not only was there an extra 10 (8 Km) miles on the odometer, the seat was pushed forward, and the radio station was not where I left it.

But, it in walking distance of my job, and it's still cheaper then the dealer!!!!

Next up the spinning bolts of the Air Cleaner

Well the spinning bolts thing is you got 2 choices, go to a junkyard and get a used 1 or cut the bolts off and put a reg metal bolt/nut on it, this happened to our 94 and i couldnt believe how bad the air filter was in condition(speaking of that i better check it out).

thanks

That is what I am goping to do this week-end, a friend has one of those hand held (I can't think of the trade name) tools that can cut off things like that.

I should make that 2 new assholes since I discovered how they replaced the bulbs.

They broke the lower supports to the headlamp unit. Only the 2 upper bolts are holding the thing in place.

The good news is that now I'll have no problem next time changing the bulbs. :icon_smil

The bad news is that I can't keep the lights aligned. The Eagle now has a "drooping" right light.

Well, if they weren't broken before, (with the exception of not being to get the screws out) perhaps you could use some persuasive words and get them to buy you some new lights to replace the ones that they broke...
