What tranny are they running with the Magnum?

My bugging question with the Magnum is, what tranny are they using in them? I would hope it is something better than the first gen trannies. But wait, I almost forgot...these cars are rear wheel drive, right? Are all LX going to be rear wheel drive?

I would rate the LH cars higher than the LX. I really like my first gen. It does pretty well in the winter. I don't know if I would trust a Magnum to get me around here in the snow.

42RLE, on the 3.5 and 2.7. RWD revision of our transmission. Same thing that the 3.7L liberty has.

All LXs are RWD, or AWD (soon).

But, don't let the transmission name scare you off. The design has matured much over the years.

have you driven an LX in the winter yet? if not, how can you rate the LH cars higher? the LXs have a much better traction control system than the LH to help out in snow, and AWD will be coming out here in the near future. The Hemi powered cars get the mercedes 5 Speed auto

Yes the LX cars are standard with RWD, and like Hypnos said AWD is coming. Large FWD Chrysler cars are now gone, done, see ya, ect ect..

The thing that gets me is what I read on another board. If I remember correctly, the poster said something along the lines of "Well soccer mom Jane, will spin her new Magnum into a ditch, because the last RWD she drove was an 80's Buick." basically along those lines. If someone is THAT worried about driving in snow then get AWD. But RWD with ESP (which is standard on all models except plain plain base ones) is a good way to go. I mean look how many Towncars, Crown Vics, Trucks, old Caprices, Mercedes, BMW's, Audi's, Lexus's are on the road. Don't hear anyone complaing about those.

That's why I made the statment that I did. Based on most of the LH cars in the junkyard, most of the cars in the area that I live are base with not much to them. But I did not know that the Magnum's are available with a better traction control than the LH sedans.

The thing that gets me is the styling, the LX line is replacing the LH line. The LX cars out as of now don't resemble the Intrepid much at all. I really like the larger four door sedan. I am not too crazy about the station wagon styling.

Really that was their whole intent. When the LH's came in 93 and replaced the outgoing EEK cars (I think?) it was a dramatic depature like now. Honestly it's nothing new to Chrysler to change up like that.

The Diplomat and 5th Avenue were already done by 89. The LH's came in late 92. So no they did not replace the Large RWD cars since they were already gone by then. The EEK cars were the largest by the time the Intrepid came out, which they were eventually dropped for the Cloud cars.

42RLE, hmmmmmm

I wonder about the feasabliity of re-gearing the tranny and putting a turbo kit on the 3.5. Something like people are doing to their prowlers.
