The 2nd gen parts ought to go right in that 1st gen tranny. I know the tranny I got for my 3.5 came out of a 2nd gen. and it works perfect with mine. I'm guess that parts would have to be the same in order for it to actually be compatible because the gearing feels the exact same, just now it actually shifts over 2nd gear =D

I already put the 2nd gen parts in my transmission, they fit and work just fine. Maybe someone needs to finish the thread before posting ...perhaps, maybe..

You dont get to be entertained! If I have to work every day this week and not get any time to work on my car or study for my tests then you dont get to have any fun!

On the up side, not having any time to spend money means that its slowly accumulating in my account!

They're nothing, changing my belt and water pump was the first work I've ever done on a car. Took me a little while, but it just makes the success that much sweeter. All I can say is don't pull off the crankshaft pully. I tried and tried and tried and it would not come off. Then i just wiggled the belt and pulled it through the spaces in the pulley and it came off. 5 min later I was running the new belt around the camshafts.

nice

nice thread. i am certainly going to upgrade the transmission. it's making so much noise when in gear - the car hardly moves now. it thumps a few times during engine start and then quiets down, but in gear, car shudders, both in forward and reverse gears. i'm starting to wonder if it's the torque converter.

I'm looking into rebuilding the trans in a 97 I just bought. When you did your rebuild did you end up using a dial indicator? Or did you just use calipers to get an overall thickness of the clutch packs?
