Three years ago or so, I borrowed my brother's raggedy old minivan to move some stuff. While it was parked in front of the house, one of my neighbors kids got too close in a tight angle and caught the left tail light and scuffed the bumper. Their car was much worse off since it was newer and I can understand reporting that to the insurance.

However, when the agent asked me about the damage, I said just give me $50 bucks and I'll go to the junkyard and get my bro another light and be done with it. Actually, I didn't even mention that it was not my van. I just said $50 to cover the light.

A week or so later, I received a check from the insurance company for $800 in damage repair. Needless to say, My brother was thrilled to have a few extra bucks and just a few extra scratches on the heap. I think I even managed to snag a lamp from a klunker trade in from the back lot.

So, I don't think it's just the way it seems. Some companies are happy to pay out small claims and not have to worry about any future issues.

'87IROCZOWNER69 Not my neighbor....this happened at a friends house.

I don't see how its fraud....I would be getting paid to have it fixed and if the hourly rate for me fixing it is $250 then so be it. I would be perfectly fine with getting paid for the fender alone so long as these people get ticketed for the hit & run.

cdmccul Find out names and numbers of the friends and go find it yourself - you'll take $50 in fuel to do it, and damage relationships with your neighbors for no reason...

Save your money, drive it damaged, and wait for guilt to change minds.

You could always park in the most annoying spot for your neighbor till the car is fixed...

Even if you had full coverage insurance yourself you'd still be out your deductible because if the person who did the hit-n-run can't be found there's no one to charge for the damage.
Yeah I understand what you are saying. They did call me back today saying that they didnt do it and how they had already called all their friends and asked them if they did it and so on an so forth (which is complete bs). She then goes on to say "Idk what color paint scratches are on your car but all the people who came over to my house last night all drive black vehicles" to which I told her "well I do have black paint on my car". So she insisted that if any of her friends had done it they would have fessed up....Oh really? They got away with it initially so why would they fess up now?

Anywho, I did contact the police and filled out a report and they agreed with me how it looks like someone backed into it and it is the proper angle and such. They then went on to their car and did some stuff and came back a half hour later and they took down my number, gave me the report number, and also gave me the officers badge number and name. He then turned around and said good luck.

So where do I go from here? Seems to me like they aren't going to even investigate this whole thing at all. Yeah I would do the whole grab a new fender thing but funds are tight (since I dont have a job) and this thing is also on the verge of exploding at any point and time. So I really need them to find out who did this.

My hit and run rant...

Well my car was involved in a hit and run today while I had it parked in front of my friends house, nothing a new fender wont fix but I'm still pissed that I will have to shell out $50 for a new fender. However, I believe it was his neighbors from across the street judging by the angle of the damage and just how it is. I assume that the neighbor or one of their friends backed into it and didn't bother to stop and leave a note or nothing so I'll have a nice conversation with them tomorrow morning. I'm really hoping they will man up to it and just give me their insurance information so I can get an estimate done and get paid to have it fixed. I'm unemployed right now so it would be nice to get a little bit of money from it and be able to pick up a new motor for the damn thing.

I'll see if I can't get pictures tomorrow for you guys. This kind of stuff just pisses me off though because about two months ago someone sideswiped the front of my Camaro when I had it parked in the street and they didnt leave a note or nothing.
