I have a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban LT 5.3 that is having some issues, the DIC language keeps changing, and the Metric/Imperial settings switch themselves. Another issue I saw on a 16hr drive was that it put itself into 4WD and burned out a tank of gas (got 5.1 MPG during that) I managed to put everything else back to normal, but now the A/C makes a horrible squealing noise on start up, you have to rev the engine to 3-4k to make it stop.

4WD on dry pavement could also mean burning out the transmission as well.. If your A/C compressor is going south that could contribute to the bad MPG with more drag, but the belt may just need adjustment.
