My friend borrowed his grandmas 09 toyota corolla yesterday and I told him my 96 Intrepid (3.5) could beat it in a race. So we line up, do the countdown, and both peel out. It wasn't a very far distance but we were neck and neck for the most part. Honestly I didn't think his car would do as well as it did but it was pretty peppy for a 1.8L. Once we got up to around 40mph though, my intrepid pulled ahead and he gave up because there was a stop sign coming up.

It was right in front of the football field/track at the high school we just graduated from, and there were a bunch of people out there and I'm sure they were watching. Most probably saw the corolla thats 13 years newer and thought it would win over my big old green rust bucket. But even with a 110,000 more miles, and 500-600 pounds heavier, my Intrepid beat an 09 corolla. I know thats not real impressive, but I just wanted to share it.

Congrats! Always good to hear these older boats put up a good fight against new tech. If you think about it, the newest LH tech is 12 years old now.

if its an auto, its only a 4spd.

Not really impressive as those corollas are dogs (I'm assuming the 09 version is similar to the 03-04 model drivertrain) i remember I had to floor one during a driving lesson, felt really slow.

I'm sure if you two were to do a 1/4 mile you'd have at least a car or three on him though, 4 cyl cars aren't too great for top end, geared for city (hence the peppiness).
