As I posted when I first joined this forum, Bought my first dodge(Actually my daughter did for her first car) A friend of mine who became disabled had to sell the car so I bought it for my daughter. It was cheap...But there was a Catch. The two Fuel tank straps let go. I had it towed back to my house. From there, my daughter and I cleaned it and cleaned it. Ut had been sitting with a full tank of fuel since last september. The battery was dead. Got the car running. It runs well. Yesterday I backed it onto ramps. I hit the strap screws with PB blaster. I was able to get all of them out, cleaned them up with my wire wheel. They will be reused. Now the good part: The heat shields, Or what is left of them, also have to come off and be replaced. It was somewhat of a pain to get one shielod off the tank. But the last nut to come off will not. It's stuf sort of sits in a slot on the tank. I also looked around while I was under there. I have to get rid of some of that rust and hit it with some paint, at least to give her a few more years of life. That being said, I started having to empty the tank of fuel tonight. Like I said, it's a full tank! I am using a plastic shoebox size box, removing fuel, puting it in a gas can and did it until the can was full, a Pal of mine will put it in his old truck to run it off. Anyway, I see it has those fuel line connectors that looked to me, like they have to be squeezed in the middle and then pulled apart. I have my own small engine repair business and I have a tool for doing something like that but it's sort of too big to get to where it has to be. Does anyone have any suggestions where to get that fuel line removal tool? Any suggestions what to do if it is hard to get apart? I also see I am removing the back seat and unplugging the sending unit then sending the harness through the body grommet so I can take the tank away from the car. Also, the filler neck will have to be replaced as it is ready to rot out. When I shut the fuel door, I can hear debris hit the ground. Anyway, I am open to any advice you Mopar guys can render, I do have a Chilton manual, when it came to removing the fuel lines, it said theres many ways to do it. They left it at that!! Lucky for me I have this forum, I was able to download the shop manual but have not looked at it really too much which brings me to you guys. Again, thanks for any help or suggestions you could give. I have disconnected those just by squeezing the two sides with my fingers.
Then I jumpered the fuel pump and let the fuel pump pump out the gas.

Yes, the gas tank wire harness goes through the floor and connects to the body harness under the seat.
Just disconnect and push the rubber grommet and harness through the floor when you are ready to remove the tank.


Can't help on the filler neck. I haven't had to replace one of those...yet.

Yeah, those filler necks seem to rot out on all of them. Mine was bad, couldn't find a good one after looking at about 30 different cars at a junk yard. I repaired mine with a new vent line and hit it over good with a spray sealer. Might be better off ordering a new one from a dealership.

I also was able to let the tank drop a bit and unhook a plug from the passenger side. I didn't have to pull the grommet through.

One more thing, you need to remove the rear sway bar. If you completely get it out of there it is much easier to get the fuel neck out and back in.

Fuel tanks shields came in..FINALLY!! and filler neck is here as well. Will start in on it this weekend, also bought a pair of fuel line removal pliers as well.
