Yesterday I installed my OTIS I got from Gigamight and I took it out for a drive to see how it works. It works great!!

So I went for a drive on the highway and put it on instant MPG and noticed the variation with the speed. WOW!

Although I need to take it for a nice long drive to really catch the best speed for the best economy, I was wondering what other members have experienced?

I don't have an OTIS but my intrepid gets about 21-22 in and around town, but I just put some 18" rims with some bigger tires so there bigger than stock, so I think I'm getting about 23-24mpg. But I drove down to the Tri-Cities which is about 300 miles from where I am and I drove at about 90 to 100mph the whole way and still got the same mileage so I really don't know what to think. But everyone I've talked to said to get the best gas mileage drive at 55mph.

I get 21 mpg in the city and 25-27 mpg on the highway with the cruise set for 70. I have a 2.7 in plain jane intrepid with exterior trim and paint modifications courtesy of my two teenage daughters learning to drive. The engine has 92k miles.

I get a low of 23 for city driving and on a trip to colorado (600 miles through hwy and mountains) I got 32-35. Which made me go through the reciets a few times to make sure the math was right. I got the plain jane 2.7L too, and was doing about 105 down I-70 with a speeding buddy :)

The reason for going that fast was I had work at 11pm and we didnt leave till 10am that day. It was wasnt the best thing to go that fast, but hey it was fun :)

That's what I've been noticing with the OTIS; depending on the speed... it sometimes shows even 38 MPG!!!

I'll know for sure in a few weeks since I'm going on a 1200-mile journey.

I don't trust those Otis-type things when it comes to gas mileage. It's a calculated mileage number based on pre-programmed operating values (assumptions), rather than a true measured number. Some of them display a Moving Average of the estimated/calculated mileage; some of them display the estimated/calculated instantaneous mileage.

When you figure mileage based on gas pump receipts and miles driven, you are doing a calculation of true mileage : the actual measured volume of gas used divided into actual miles driven. The on-board systems in our cars do not measure the volume of gas consumed; they just estimate it.

However some people have compared gas pump calculations to displayed numbers and say that the numbers are pretty close in certain cars, under certain driving conditions.

What does OTIS stand for anyway ? Same question for EVIC ?

I don't have either an OTIS or EVIC (would like one though) but I have been keeping track of my mileage since day one with this car. I've got a mix of highway and city, mostly highway back and forth to work. Roughly 75-80% highway. I have a spreadsheet at home with over 2 years of mileage so when I get home I can give you an average from May 2004 thru the last time I filled up. And that's from 48k miles when I bought it thru recently at whatever miles I'm at now in my sig, over 85K. So I've got good data, and if memory serves me, I think my average is in between 23 and 24, a little closer to 23. I'll check that when I get home. I've seen it as high as 28-29 (really long highway trip) and as low as 17 (really cold stretch in winter like -20F).

My OTIS checks out to be very accurate. I'm averaging 25.1 mpg since Carlisle (about 3500 miles overall since being reset). Most of my miles are highway 75-80 mph.

My average mpg over 38625 miles from 5/14/04 thru 8/16/06 is 23.7 MPG. Again that's with a very good portion of my commute on the highway.

Yes I read that B4 I even got mine but it dousn't say what OTIS stands for?
Without opening the maual I will guess and say Overhead Travel Information System, and Electronic Vehicle Information Center.

Now I'll find the link to the manual and see what it says.

Edit. I was correct on both.
