ya well mines blown right now..its in the garage sitting there.. the sad part is i have no money for a new engine or to fix it but if i do get it fixed..im going to be right on top and making sure that engine is clean as a damn whistle..but ya my car had 5 previous owners before me and it has 96k mikes on itMehh... 2.7s are just sensitive. If they are taken care of; IE Mobil 1 oil changes every 3000, regular PCV valve checks, and timing chain water pump health checks, they are fine. Ive seen them with 150K clean as a whistle inside. If its already got sludge -- which would mean the previous owner didnt take good care of it -- then I would say drive it till it blows and swap in a 3.2/3.5. Other than that, meticulous mainenance will keep it going.
My 2.7= 138,700 miles with original parts.
The 2.7's that "suck" were not taken care of properly.
yes they are, i dont know if its because i dont do a lot of continuous long mileage but im at nearly 70k km and when i replaced the accessory belt it still looked like new, now cuts or signs of wear LOL.I'd guess people keep running them because most people don't have the time, tech, or knowhow to swap out an engine arbitrarily. Hence, if it's a 2.7, run it until it dies and get a new one.
That doesn't seem too hard a concept.
That said though, definitely get a 3.5 HO. Those things are practically bulletproof.
i agree, ive heard enough about this POS 2.7L Why do you guys keep on running them? You know its a ticking time bomb, you might as well not be surprised when it goes and just be happy it lasted as long as it did.
Its an 8 year old car, with tons of KM, what do you guys expect? Not to mention it was the cheapest intrepid off the lot.
The site you posted it complete garbage, he has other versions of it. People on di have been bashing that guy forever.
Just do yourself a favour and get a 3.5/3.5HO and call it a day. THere are some programming issues ive heard of a while back but im sure people have gotten over them now, something about fuel management etc.
