I was driving to a Pepboys where I live at and I noticed a deep purple 95 Intrepid with WACK sticker flames and all blk 16" 6 spoke rims with SMALL and THIN tires. Looked like ****, and that is what made me notice the speed shop where it was at.

The shop is called Quest Performance in San Bernardino , CA. I asked them if they would be able to make an intake tube so that I may put back my cone filter on the car.

To make a long story short, It would be $80 for the tube , chrome or with you choice in colors.

So what do you guys think about the price

Ok you guys, there will be 2 different prices here.

I was quoted $80 for just a small intake tube so that I may put a nice cone filter. It that it will just take the place of that 24" or so according tube CRAP that the 3.5's have which then connects to the stock air filter box. Still not a bad price for a 3" tube.

But here is where it gets interesting. I was quoted anywhere from $150-$180 for an intake tube modification starting from the 2 THROTTLE BODIES ALL THE WAY AROUND TO THEN THE CONE FILTER ( Cone filter is probally what everybody would put in ). This would be a custom made situation to where they WILL be able to do for me ( us 3.5 guys ). It will be tricky, but they said that they specialize in all types of air intakes for what ever the car.

So what do you guys think?? I know that for an ICEMAN intake for these imports is way over $200, so for $150- $180 for a nice custom but exact fit for the Intrepid. The filters, well you can get those for like $24.99 at PEPBOYS ( APC is the brand ) :D

Only thing that you must realize is that the intake lengths *must* but the same. That means the same length and diameter of pipe from each throttle body to where they meet. The 3.5L engine doesn't have enough of a connection between the 2 sides of the engine to equalize the pressure difference that would occur if there wasn't an equal amount of tube between the filter and the throttle bodies. That is the problem that I came up against when I was trying to make one. That coupled with the fact that there is very little room back there as it is makes it very hard to make anything better than the stock ducting.

As long as they take that into account then I would say that would be a good price for one of those.

Go for it and let us know what you think.

Later,

HELLO GUYS, I AM A ROOKIE HERE, SO BEAR WITH ME PLEASE. I JUST BOUGHT A 1996 DODGE INTREPID. I FELL INSTANTY IN LOVE WITH IT AS SOON AS I DROVE IT. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A DODGE MAN, BUT THIS INTREPID HAS ME VERY EXCITED. MY QUESTION IS CONCERNING A K & N INTAKE SYSTEM. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET ONE OF THESE THING INSTALLED? I TAKE IT, THAT THERE IS NOT ONE READILY AVAILABLE FROM K & N? IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME ANY HINTS OR POINTERS ON ADDING SOME PERFORMANCE TO MY INTREPID, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR EVERYONES TIME.

ok, two-part answer. first the intake tubes would have to be exactly identical to each other because as Kyle pointed out, once the air is in the intake there's no mechanism for the two banks to equalize pressure....so theoretically you could have a lot more air in one side of the engine than the other and that would not be good. the PCM would probably kill itself trying to figure it out and of course the engine itself wouldn't run right.

second, there is no K&N intake for the 1st gen engines. there is not really that much wrong with the intake per se....it can be improved though. if you have the 3.5L V6, then refer to corey (94IntrepidES) cold air intake kit that he made for 5 bucks and a few hours of time. otherwise the only thing to do is throw in a K&N filter and remove the air restrictor from the air intake. see the how-to i wrote on this subject.

hope this helps answer a few questions.

Ahh, but i've seen this on true duel exhausts. Couldn't you take a 1" in diameter or so piece of hose and connect the two intakes somewhere before the throttle bodies to help even out the pressure? I think there is a name for this but i'm not sure.

Here's an idea that i was tossing around. I have a 95 3.3L. I was thinking of taking off everything before the throttle body out, putting in a cone filter and then putting 2 crankcase filters on the valve covers. Any ideas on this?

um, would that even fit? and the air wouldn't be all that fresh probably. what if the tubes were un-equal in length, but one tube for each TB's, so they would each have there own intake tube, one maybe longer then the other but shouldn't matter.
