I have been looking at the 300m. Some ads say 3.5l and some say 3.5 H.O.
Are they both high output or are there 2 different engines?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe ALL 300Ms have the 3.5L HO. I don't think they ever came with the option for the detuned 3.5L.

There was no second gen non-HO 3.5L engine until 2002 when it replaced the 3.2L. However, I don't believe it was ever an option in the 300M...

Nope. Starting in 2002 the 3.2L was dropped in favor of a de-tuned 3.5L engine. The engine options were then 2.7L, 3.5L and 3.5L H.O....

Yeah, as far as I know, you're pretty much right. There are three different (but very similar) versions of the 300M 3.5. It started off as the 253hp engine, up until the 300M Special came out. From there, there was the base motor, which made 250hp, and the "Special" engine, that had 255. It's all pretty much semantics, but I suppose technically, there are those minor differences.

The same thing happened with the 3.5 H.O. in the R/Ts and SXTs. In 2000 the rated HP was 240 (I believe), in 2001 it was 242 and then in 2002 it became 250 (or 255). Most of it was computer tuning. The 300M special also got some boost from the special exhaust, etc...

So to wrap up the original question all 300M's are 3.5L H.O. engines.
99-01 253hp 02-04 250hp and all Specials 02-04 255hp.
Is that about right guys.

Hope this helps you Vancouver
