1997 Dodge Intrepid, the fuel gauge is not reading correctly. It does read full when I fill up, but then as I use up the fuel, the needle doesn't go below half tank. I'm not sure if the needle is getting stuck at half, or if the fuel tank float is getting stuck at half. How do I test it to find out if it's the gauge or the tank float?

Technically you can do a ohm reading on the sender. But overtime the wiper (on the board) get dirty, corroded or just worn out. Always pull the pump clean it up or just replace it.

As @EagleESI states, you can do a ohm test on the connector, pretty easy to do and you don't have to drop the tank or remove the pump to do so a quick and easy diag. Personally if I encounter that the float is bad I'll replace the entire fuel pump but this is my personal preference.
