I mentioned in a previous post that I gave up trying to replace the evaporator in my 00 ES myself - too much work and too little time. But I had invested about $300 in parts (evaporator, heater core, filter/drier, expansion valve) so I wanted to get the work done. So I went to Craigslist under "services" for my state, answered ads there by people willing to work on cars, and got someone to install all those parts, evacuate and re-charge for a total of $715. Total cost for all that A/C work: about $1000. It's not great, but it's a lot better than I could do at a dealership or some other place with a lot of overhead. One place gave me an estimate of $1100 just to replace the evaporator. And it works great.
