Today I had to slam on my breaks and I noticed no antilock...i actually skidded quite good, made a heck of a racket. How can I tell if I have them. I thought all intrepids came with ABS

Thanks Gang, I agree platinum, what's up with that? Does anyone think it would be hard to convert. I do have rear drums, and the underhood inspection proved my worst fears. CRAP. So can I go and get a rear axil? or rear disks assemblies from a 2nd gen (junk yard), and swap it out? Then what? Am I missing the sensors and software too? I would ass-u-me so. It probably isn't worth it huh?

well.. just give a litte more thought when you have to break. the fastest way to stop is not letting ABS do it... you do it yer self, keeping the tires just barely skidding in the slightsest amount... I think I heard it called 'threshold brakeing'

Well, as a 16-year-old driver with only about a year of driving experience, i now know the difference ABS makes. It was raining outside and I was going about 25 approaching an intersection. I applied the brakes probably a little too fast and slid. It wasn't a good feeling...

my family's other '95 Intrepid ES came with ABS and I had done much more severe stopping without skidding, so i dunno...

And BTW ABS is only STANDARD on the R/T and ES w/ traction control. go look in the 2k1 Intrepid book (sitting right in front of me). I don't know if anything changed for 2002, but my SE (a 2002) doesn't have ABS. next car will, though.

Wow! 16 and a 2002 SE?!?! My first vehicle was an orange and white 1971 VW Bus nicknamed "Gus the Bus".

I don't remember if my '96 has ABS or not. I haven't seen it for over a year now. :( If it doesn't and has rear drums I'd be interested in doing a rear brake conversion too.

I just relized, I have, like, the WORST luck with cars. Pontiac threw a rod. Oldsmobbile stripped the timing gear, (interference engine), fixed the valves/timingchain/pushrods/lifters/heads and then the Cam decided to die (two worn lobes.) now my trep is in the shop for an "I think it is the water pump, but I'm not sure" type of thing. blah.
