Stationed in german, I have had the chance to go against some tuff competition. Porches are my main competers. There are a lot of them over here, and they are always wanting to race. On this perticular situation. It was a friend of mine and he was in his 944S. He had justed dropped me off at the shop to pick up my intrepid. I had to get the timing chain replaced. WE were at the last stop light before the autobahn, and he knew my car was due for a good opening up. As soon as the light turned yellow(light system over here is a little different then the states)I layed it to the floor, we were even for the first 2 secondes, but by the time we hit the on ramp I had a good 1/4 car lead. The porsche had the inside lane, and I thought for sure he would take me. But that intrepid 3.5 wouldnt hear of it. We straightend out and I continued to pull away, untill my rpm's completly dropped when I hit 115 mph. Now german spec vehicles dont have goveners so he flew past me at his usual 140 mph and rubbed it in when I caught up with him at his house. But I "ALMOST HAD THE PORSCHE" :confused:

Ahh the "bastard" Porsche. 928s, 944s and 968s were all front engined, water cooled machines. Heresy in Porsche circles. :)

A lot of purists still loathe the fact that 911s are now water cooled.

Porsche 944S 2.5L I4 (1987-88*)
Power = [email protected]
Torque = [email protected]
Weight = 2975lbs

*Since you didn't saw what year/engine combination that 944S is, I went with that, sice those are the only two years for the S anyway. Was he having a bit of fun with you? A 944S will zip to 60 in a little under 7 seconds and turn the 1/4 in about 15.5.

Sweet race though! I'm jealous!

they have some extremely sweet rides over here. You see alot of lamborghini's, and ferrari's running around. I met a guy that used to race in the sunday cups over here, and now he has his own porsche shop. owns about 17 porsches, and a bright yellow 89 ferrari testarosa. Which he just sold for 65,000 marks(around 30,000 dollars)but before he sold it, he took me for a joy ride, imagine going 160 mph and still having one more gear to go. Never held on to a door handle that tight before. Unfortunately with all the speedy vehicles, when you see a wreck, you dont usually see survivors. I travel normally right at 100-105 mph, and jokers are passing me like I'm an old grandma in the slow lane doing 30 mph. incredible

Holy ****!!! A Ferrari for 30K!?!?!?

Hey, way to smoke that non-turbo Porsche! If the Trep didn't have a governer, I don't think you would have seen him again.

We don't have a strech of road like that in the States. We are jealous.

I don't do that. What about Grandpa Joe pulling out of his driveway under estimating your speed? 10-15 MPH tops on country backroads.

Germany is great. I was a naval duty driver hauling Fat ass Adrimals around in the early 80`s. The fastest i ever drove was a officer friends Lotus Esprit twin turbo, 183 to 185 Mph. Good almost kill. Get a R/T no limiter on them just areo drag. I agree with you when they have a wreck they just call the meat wagon. Not to many people live 160 mph plus wrecks.

That is why the road has to be long, straight, flat, with little or no houses on it. I have yet to find one that meets all that criteria. I can only get up to about 110mph before I have to slow down due to a hill or a car up ahead. Hell, one time I saw that the pavement turned into a dirt road up ahead. :) I have found a stretch that is close. :D This spring my search continues. There are plenty of country roads a few miles out of where my parents's live. :)

She sure gets up to 110mph in no time and is extremely smooth. :)

Yep, the autobahn is sweet. Banked turns, no potholes, no left lane hogs! I was in (west)Germany 86-86. I had just bought an 86 Dodge omni GLH (shoulda kept it, less than 4000 made,last year) I took it on the autobahn and it topped out at 112 mph. Not bad for a 2.2 non turbo 4 banger. I would like to try my 2001 intrepid on the 'bahn. Wonder what it would top out at? I hear it can't go past 106 mph because of a dumb ass limiter. Is this true? :confused:

hey cobra65, its not really the speed that is limitid on the intrepids. it is the RPM's. Suppose to be some kinda of engine saver. Mine cuts out at 3500 RPM's in 4th gear. Going straight or slightly uphill(105 mph), but going down a smooth hill(110-115mph)if lucky. This german dodge/chrysler dealer found me the replacement chip that takes off the govener, runs about $350 installed over here. I will have it before I leave. Found a lot of open roads in cali that Im sure I can open up on.

It seems like the deer here in Michigan believe they are born to be traffic drossing guards, that or they are just trying to commit suicide before the hunting season begins! :eek:

They did in Montana a couple years back, but the speed limits are now back in effect.

Still, the way most of the roads are in Montana (aside from the interstates) you wouldn't want to go much faster than the limit anyway.

Nevada is another good state fly. Nice flat 4 lane Hwy`s outside of LasVegs. You can go for miles and not hit a corner. But the State patrol has Mustangs and Firebirds. :eek:

Now I know you're not afraid of a Mustang. :D
