Just going to be straight forward and ask:

Is there a way to fix a broken stud for the alternator? It's the one where the battery cable connects to it. I tried using a ratchet to loosen the nut like I always do, except this time, it sheered the stud off. I heard if you take the alternator apart, you can possible get a replacement stud and install it? But I'm not sure if that's just every alternator or specific ones.

NOT RELATED but:

Also also, upon taking the alternator off, it hit the low pressure side of my power steering reservoir and snapped the nipple off. Lol. Good start to my day. Started leaking power steering fluid all over my garage. I know I can easily replace that

My understanding is the LH alternator is extremely difficult to rebuild, though I've never heard of the stud snapping off and don't know what it would take to replace it. Personally I wouldn't bother and would get a replacement from the yard, alternator failures are not that common.

Yeah, that’s what I figured. I can get a used alternator on eBay for around 35-45 bucks! the charging stud snapped off when I tried to loosen it. I have never heard of the studs snapping either. Thank you for your help though! I appreciate it!

Not generally worth fixing at that point. One thing about the alternators on the LH's, they were nearly bulletproof. By the time you needed to remove one, usually for access to something else, rust or corrosion causes things like the stud snapping off. If you attempted to rebuild at that point you'd probably find the price of the parts is more than a new/reman alternator. They aren't so much hard to rebuild, just expensive to get parts for.

I dont usually recommend used alternators, but on these cars, they are a solid bet. My used alternator from 2007 is still functioning today. LOL.

Yeah, I’ve taken this alternator off a few times and it’s never had any issue. Until awhile ago. I usually don’t go with used alternators as well. But from what I’ve read and heard, these alternators are almost ALWAYS in working condition.

i found a few on eBay thats used. Only issue I have is, I don’t wanna get the new-used one and have the same stud issue lol
