Hey crew! Long Tima no talka. Thanks for the cool mod. ATF. I did this one., LOOKS FATT DADDY . Really goes well with my mirrored tint. But BEWARE amatures! This job is not for the faint of heart. It takes a very steady hand and some safty goggles too. But the reward is certainly worth it. Be patient, the first may take hours cause you wont know how it all fits...the second only took half an hour cause once you loose the fear of ruining your hundred dollar tail light assembly it's not all that bad. Red bulbs were 4.99 for two at autozone and I picked up some standard 12v red bulbs for the interior to work in the third corner outlet. Again this really makes the car look good. However, anyone had some complaints about brightness. These taillights are much more blinding than the oringinal diffused look. I noticed a lady behind me this morning and in the reflection of here eyeglassed was this bright red glow :), I don't know if it was the devil in here getting mad at me or if it was my new bulbs lol...but boy they look good. hehe. .. :) thanks again for the cool tip!

P.S. SO now what should we do with the deck lid? Theres more ugly red plastic in there! , Anybody cut that part open yet?

i really want to do this mod but i priced the tailights at a junkyard. the cheapest i could find them was $45 a piece, so it might be a bit before i can do this....i posted an idea for putting LED's in there instead of bulbs...i might try that if i get creative...

I had some people flashing me too when i had just the standard bulbs in. I ordered some 3157 LED replacements for both lights and haven't had the problem. It looks much better when lit too b/c the LED's reflect off the inside, making the whole taillight glow. They also look cool when it's daylight, being able to see the bulb inside.
I am getting a center section shipped to me right now, will cut it open when i get it and let y'all know what i find. I'm thinking it'll have the same reflector inside. Now that question is: how to light this section.

Ditto JT! I was looking really hard. It does certainly contain a seprate compartment for the reverse lights, so lighting the other area would be sweet and it won't interfere with the reverse. I think that it's probably not cromed because no lights were to be installed there. So we'd have to paint it. Installing lights inside there would be a snap after that. That would look so good. I really am looking into it, would make a great winter project.

ATF....nice ride. (pouting about being wingless, Dooley goes and sits in the corner)

Yo, Yankey, if you can remember to bring your camera to work tomorrow. ...data be nice.

do your corner bulbs (the 168s) light up at all? neither of mine do, and no matter what light combination I have on (just parking, all lights, 4-ways, etc) they never come on. when do these damn things turn on??

After a night cruise tonight, I realize that under normal illuminescense they seem kinda dim unless you look square at them (of course looking top down makes them look pretty dark).

I'll wait and see how it goes before I upgrade to LEDs.

Hey ATF,

My corner lights do light up, just as well as the others. See if you have correct voltage at the bulb, should be 12 right? . I belive the 168R's were 12V.

I wanted to ask you where you bought your wing, is that a 2gen wing? I like the extra lights, see I'm addicted to lights. :D

Another thing is, have you had any complaints. I can tell by other driver's behavior that they are to bright. Any ideas on how to dim them a bit. Just the brake lights really. A in line resistor? what ohm?
Anyone? Anyone?

thanks fellas. To answer the questions first,

Brakes Lights To be honest, I didn't think they looked bright enough initially. I ordered 2 sets of 3157 APC (it's a band name) red bulbs from autoaccessory.com. When I put them in and looked at them during the day, you can't see **** in the tail. This concerned me because I didn't wanna get rammed from behind during the day because peopled couldn't see my tail lights turn on (granted the wing LEDS and deck lights turn on, but sometimes people aren't looking).

At night they looked real good, but my main concern was the daytime. So last night I got hooked up with some CATZ Hot Spots LED lights from my employer (American TV) from their car install place. Cost was $35 for a set (normally $70 for retail). They're great ****! I only bought one pair for now and placed them in the brake positions in the lights because they are easily visibile during the day. Also, if you notice, the middle bulbs do not come on when the brake is depressed. So I left the middle bulbs the normal round ones. I also felt that the normal bulbs had more of a glow when they flashed for turning, as opposed to the LEDs which didn't really flash. (hope this made sense)

Are they too bright? I can tell there is now a considerable glow in the cars behind me :) I think the LEDs actually made it worse...LOL but so far I haven't had any complaints. JT said he had some issues with the regular lights, though.

To me it's just a safety aspect, because BE WARNED if you get in an accident and the other person says it's because they couldn't see your tail lights on, it'll be your fault because these aren't DOT approved lights. There are no reflectors in them. You may be able to pass it off on the cop with the lower reflector panel (which doesn't light up), but chances are slim.

Wing
The wing you see came with my car when I bought it. I believe it was an option on the ES models. I've seen one other wing I think was an option on the cars, but this one seems to be the more rare of the two. I like it a lot. The LEDS in back of it look really great too. You can get these OEM wings from a number of websites.

Finally, I guess I'll hafta invest in some 168's. I just don't ever remember them being on from the day I bought the car. but to be honest I've never seen another intrepid around with them on either, so I can't verify. Kinda lke all the new Chevy and GMC trucks you see with only one daytime running light because the other burns out right away.
