I was planning on taking the muffler off and doing a straight pioe from there, and leaving the resonators there until I get the money to do a strait exaust. Would I see any increase in anything and would it sound like crap, or would it sound good? I never have done anything like this but want to make my car sound good. I just thought I would ask before I do anything. (sorry for the exaust question lol there is alot of them)

Chryslers exhaust is not designed with a flow restriction, other than noise, you will not get a huge performance gain.

But the sound is very nice.

More street racing???!!! JK

Gotta be careful with what you do with the exhaust on the 2.7. They like a certain amount of backpressure. There's been a few members here who tried to go with a true duel exhaust from cylinder bank out only to find out the motor lacked power. A common exhaust mod is taking the rear resonator out and the muffler that sits crossways under the trunk. Replace it with a single in and dual out muffler, like that from an IROC Camaro and have dual exhaust tips that are both functional. I think you will find the straight pipe idea not worthwhile.

Hmmm I wondered what true dual would do.. but eventually Ill fake it so I dont lose power. (yes I have the 2.7) lol and no its not to race.. I need to maintain my car and dont want to face stupid charges.. all for what.. a moment of joy.. what if I hit someone that night.. it could have been nasty.

but here is a diagram for what I would like to do.. I hope you like it.. i used ms paint :D lol.

edit: oh yes I was wanting noise, some good noise too.. lol but I didnt expect much preformance gain, just though it would be cool if I gained some, but oh well the roar of the engine is good enough for now. Thank you all for your advice and help, I appreciate it thank you.

I tried both romoving the resonator alone and leaving just the muffler. While the sound was nice it still was to quiet. I tried removing the muffler and leaving the resonator and it sounded a little ricer for me. So I have no muffler ore rear resonator. It sounds awsome have gotten quite a few compliments on it. So my exhaust exits on the passengers side instead of the drivers Ill take pics of what I have done tommorow.

Also I have it all clamped together so that I can Put it all back to stock. So that No matter what I can pass emisions.

hey I like you setup 3.5L, do you mind if I take your idea? I might as well do the resonator and muffler removal, if it sounds great. which is what I want. :) Thanks man your setup inspired me.

Would the same procedure work on a first gen 3.5L? Ive been wanting a little bit deeper of a sound from my 3.5 for a while now, I mean I like the low pitch from the exhaust but I want the same sound to be lets say LOUDER.

I did that 2 or 3 weeks ago. All I got is a not loud at all fart cannish noise @ ~ 2000RPM.

I also removed the other muffler in the rear. Now I do get a loud enough noise with a nice v6 sound in P or N, but it sounds like a fart can @ under 3000RPM in Drive or Auto/Stick. I did this as a cheap way to have a nice noise till I can get me a Flowmaster 80.

Go ahead and do this if its what you want... its not my idea in specific.

I wish I had a way to do a sound clip. When I go to florida I will see what I can do.

I will take pics liek I said this morning and will post them here in a few hours.

Heres a few pics of my setup. Now mind you you can see the clamps from the rear of the car, like a vehicle traveling behind me.

Nothing permanant like I said. I can put it all back to factory easily. So that I can pass emisions with no worries. I can get part numbers and ect from Advance Aut Parts if you would like me to.

I will keep that in mind. I will check with the GF's uncle about welding that all in place then. He owns a local exhaust shop, so hopefully I can get a deal on the work.

Thanks

3.5L: you gotta do something about those clamps hangin' down. The least you can do is spin them so they face up when you tighten them down. That setup would look a lot cleaner with a slight bend just after the rear suspension to tuck the pipe up under the car better. You could also try and shoot it with some black paint to hide it. A nicer exhaust tip would finish it right off.
