I am considering trading in my '97 Intrepid on a '00 300M. Low miles, loaded.

What is your opinion of the vehicle? Nice ride? comfortable? powerful? etc...

Thanks.

My father just bought an '02 silver 300M. Factory ordered, its on a truck on the way to NYC thanks to Otto's updates.

300M is a nice ride. Going from a 1st gen Trep to a 300M is a huge bump up in luxury. :)

Get it if you can afford it.

Ill be posting father/son pics of his M and my R/T when we get it.

Oh and ive driven a 300M for a few days as a rental. Its VERY similar to my R/T. The only differene is the R/T ride is a little "tighter". If the 300M has the PHP option, then it will be pretty much an R/T. Power wise, its pretty much the same.

The leather on the 300M is a little "softer" than the R/T but its still very nice.

Sounds like I need to go meet with the salesman then. He emailed me today and offered to let me have the car for a day to see how well I like it. I might just take him up on the offer.

It's a 2000, chrome wheels, infinity system, etc. 22K miles.

I might have to change my signature here in a few days... :D

How much does he want for it... before any trades?

Keep in mind my father just bought a NEW 2002 300M factory ordered (Infinity, Full Spare, Sunroof) for about $27,500.

The price for this one better be under 18k.

His initial price was $17,500, but that isn't including any trade or money down, etc. I'll get it for $15K before trade in or I'll walk.

I actually had a choice between a 300m and the Intrepid R/T- I choose the R/T because I liked the styling better than the 300M- I actually don't like the headlights on the 300M or the chopped rear end. The only reason I would have choosen the 300M was because it has the luxury of the 300M and the performance of an R/T.

U know, im surprised we have no 300m owners here on the boards??? I mean we have represented LHS, Concord, Trep, Vision, and even Stratus! but no 300M? ... i guess they like to keep to themselves.

Oh, and BK, i think the styling on the 300M is a matter of personal choice. I remember even before owning my trep, I saw the 300M and was like WOW those loook soooo cool. I like the chopped look of the back, but thats jus me. with tint and chrome rims.... it can be one SWEET ride!!

But, everyone has their opinion, its all good.

Yes, I agree with 97Purple_trep. I think the 300M is a great-looking car. The new '02 300M Special looks even better with sharper-looking headlights and bigger wheels. I'm sure it's a great performer too.

I also like the transparent tail lights on the new '02 model. If money was no object, I would strongly consider the '02 300M Special. :D

Ok well... I am actually quite familiar with the 300M because I was looking for one back in May, and my father just bought one so I had to investigate for him. Lemme correct a couple of points made here.

300M owners do not frequent this site probably because that model has a pretty devoted following. They have a 300M enthusiasts club that my father says they even charge $15 in dues per year I believe. The edmunds town hall group for the 300M is also one of the largest groups out of all the cars ever made.

The clear taillights were actually standard starting with the '01 model year.

Someone here mentioned they didnt like the front headlights and the chopped off rear end. Yeah the rear looks like its missing part of its own ass... LOL... but I actually like the front headlights and fog lights, more so than the Intrepid.

As far as the 300M special goes... a lot of loyal 300M owners and people considering the 300M are not digging the special. First off they are really annoyed that the engine on the special is not beefed up. Its the same engine as in the standard 300M, and thats in the Intrepid R/T and the new '02 ES. Yeah they tune the **** out of it to bump the HP up to 255... but you will probably not see any performance increase.

A lot of people also do not like the "two tone" look. On a silver car, you will have the bright silver metallic paint, but on the underbody... you will have a darker grey. Thats not too bad, but on the inside, you also have a two toned interior. This has turned away a lot of potential buyers. Me personally... i don't mind it.

Finally... with the special you do get 18" silver wheels standard (no chrome option), and you do get HID lights, and I believe the OTIX on that car will give you tire PSI on all the wheels which is pretty sweet.

Problem is.... the price will not be cheap. 300M specials will probably run easy in the 32k range... maybe more. For this price, the car just isn't worth it. If they would have dropped a V8 in there, yeah it would be. I know there were manufacturing issues with putting say the HEMI engine in there. But for 32k plus... I would rather get a Lexus.

The base 300M is a good deal for 27k.... but the special at 32k+.... no thanks.

Just my opinion.

Well, sorry. My mistake. I thought the clear tail lights were new for the '02 model year.

In my opinion, even if the 300M Special's price is $32K (or a bit higher), you aren't going to get a Lexus for $32K (MSRP) with as much power, room, or any of the other things that we like our LH cars for. Once again, just my opinion. :)

Hope you get the 300M. I love my 99 LHS. Basically an extended 300M. Interior is comfy and the infinity system sounds nice. I just have all stock stuff, but it comes loaded. I don't like pimping it up personally. Think it looks goofy. But it rides great, powerful. I've put over 20000 miles on since Feb and it's solid.
