Any Advice on rear suspension Removal

3578 Views 36 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  CPU Xtreme
I will be removing all the rear suspension components including the crossmember, all brackets, old brake lines gas tank straps and exhaust in order to sand blast some minor rust areas then epoxy primer and paint the back portion of the undercarriage, I will be replacing all parts with new parts upon assembly. My question is anyone aware of any unforseen problems i may encounter all help and ideas are greatly appreciated?

PB Blaster and Hand Tools. Avoid impact/air tools, they will break more bolts and clip nuts than doing the job by hand. Once bolts break free, work them back in and out with some PB to clear the threads. It will make the reassembly easier if you take your time during disassembly.

and if your are removing the struts..... beware of the pinch bolts.... they almost never come out in one piece!
I would add a second set of adjustable link rods to facilitate a more accurate rear alignment. Unless you have done so already.

do you mean replace the lateral arms with adjustable links? has anyone done this and if so how well has it worked?

Yep! Those are the ones. I added a pair to the Special when I did my rear suspension. Now I can align it just like a Stratus. (4 adjustable arms instead of just two). If you adjust them to the length of the solid rods before installation, you'll have a good start.

I am glad I asked for Advice and Ideas on here as I would not have thought of that. This is a great Idea!!!!
I have come across the bolts being seized to the lateral arm steel sleeves and the trailing arm steel sleeves all the pb in the world has not freed them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove these bolts without damage to the spindles and mounts?

See the link in my sig about suspension install. It's very difficult to remove the long bolt without damaging the threads if you use the bolt tap method. You might as well order new ones. Part# 06506115AA. Use a small bolt to tap it out while someone else puts some leverage on the head of the bolt for removal.

They also sell the bolts in the aftermarket for cheaper than the Mopar ones.

can you get theses where you are at , I had 2 ordered from 2 different place and both times they came back with they can no longer get these. I have been searching high and low for theses bolts

That is how I had to remove them from my 02 Concorde, the bolts were destroyed by the time I got them out. as for the other bolts this is the 1st time I had problems with these bolts
RockAuto has them listed. That's odd that the auto part stores can't get them anymore.

Yep - just discussed within the last 2 days over on the 300M Club.

The Rock llists them at $19 - note says "Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 5 business days". Would be interesting to see if they really do have them.

Chrysler part lists for $41, on line discount dealers: $30.
You might want to check your local fastener store to see if they can match something up for you.
I can look in my old bolt box and see if I still have some if they become impossible to find. Let me know.

Also, I probably have a few of the adjustable arms too if you need them.

I tried Rock auto the minute I put them in the cart and go to check out they say item removed no longer available
