in my 2000 intrepid..my door locks do lock work at all. they just make that loud noise when you try to use the locks. my question what is it i need to replace and where can i get that work performed at? and also i plan on installing a car alarm with remote start..do i got that problem first before installing the alarm system..please chime in..thx guys

You probably hear either a whirring noise or a high-pitched squeal, right? Do they ALL do this? Or just one/two doors? Usually the actuators in the doors fail singularly... I've not heard of them all failing, unless there's another issue (usually a wiring fault).

If it's individual locks not actuating, it's pretty easy to swap out the whole latch mechanism in the door; two bit torx bolts hold it in place. Pull door panel, disconnect the wiring connector and carefully disconnect the metal rods. Pops right out.
