Got this e-mail today:

Dear dodgeintrepid.net webmaster,

A number of the users on your message board have been calling their avatars and signature images to a set of Dodge logos on my site. While I have no objection to people grabbing these files for their use, I do object to getting hit for multiple image loads every time someone reads your message board.

To eliminate this silliness, I have blocked all file calls from http://www.dodgeintrepid.net until your members find a way to store their images there instead of calling them from my site.

You may want to post a note to the group so they know why their images aren't loading, and set up some mechanism that enables your members to load the images from your site.

A fellow Dodge enthusiast, Dave
I believe he's from dodgeram.org. If you were using files from his site, please send them to me so that I can host them for you. Until then, they will no longer show up.

Thanks!

Can't blame Dave here. We've been stealing his stuff and using his bandwitdh, and not even giving him credit! Sheesh!

Dave, what if we post a "Shamelessly stolen from >>>DAVE'S SITE<<<" link with a pic??? Just a thought, since you do seem to be popular...

Hummm, I smell advertising here somewhere... just not sure where... :D :D

Fellow Dodge enthusiasts,

I don't mind people "stealing" stuff from my site; I have certainly grabbed my share from others (in fact, I collected a few avatars from here). I don't mind people linking a file or image into thread content - if the information is part of a post. But linking an avatar fetches the avatar from my server every time a thread with that avatar is read, and some folks do a lot of posting. This adds numerous entries to my access log, which goes over 300Mb by the end of the month without help from avatar calls. Don't feel that some of your members are "bad"; I have three other message boards with members doing the same thing. It isn't malicious; it's just an easy way for people to make an avatar.

Freely take any images from my site that you feel are useful and don't worry about who does or doesn't get credit. But don't casually link to them from another page.

Thank you, Dave
