Hey guys, really need your help on this one. I notice a lot of bad tranny entry's, but didnt see any with my fault code. It is 45. Automatic transmission input DTC has been set in the transmission controller. 1st and 2nd gear seem fine, but when it trys to shift into 3rd, its like there is nothing there. I have to really pay attention when I drive, I have a loud stereo, and dont notice sometimes that Im rapped out at 6500 all of a sudden. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I am not familar with your fault code.

Here are some simple and easy things to try before replacing stuff.....

Try cleaning and checking for bad connections underneath the hood, electrical connectors to modules are usually toward the back of the hood near the windshield area.

Then you could also try disconnecting your negative battery terminal for 15 minutes to and this will reset the TCM.

You may get a "battery has been disconnected" fault code but it's obviously nothing big. By resetting the PCM/TCM you could end up getting another fault code later if the problem persists and it may help you better diagnose it.

If the problem continues then you may have a bad or failing Input/Output Speed Sensor or TCM (Transmission Control Module), Could even be the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) prehaps. It sounds as if some type of sensor could be malfunctioning since for some reason your tranny is not going into limp mode if first and second gear seem to function, this would usually be caused by a faulty sensor. If you tranny was bad and your TCM was working properly I would assume it would go into "2nd gear lock" "AKA Limp mode"

I am assuming that DTC could mean "DriveTrain Conroller" or something.

And of course if it continues.... you probably have a bad transmission or need an overhaul.

If you do decide to overhaul the transmission your best bet is to take it to a Dodge/Chrysler dealer if available. There have been some horror stories on this site about takin' it to a tranny shop if you haven't already read them.

Good Luck!

I had code 45 which is a general tranny problem code, they need a special computer to actually see what is wrong with it. What was wrong with mine, you ask? 2400 bucks worth of work, and that was at my buddys shop, who gave me a deal. I needed a new torque converter, and new inner and outer planetary gears. I also got a shift kit installed, and new bushings cause some of the tranny parts dont fit together properly without them. (thanks Chrysler) And again, I would DEFINITELY recommend a shift kit. It's only 150 bucks while they have the thing open, and makes a HUGE difference in shifting! Hope that helps...
